- Engage in creative strategizing, essential for maintaining comprehensive planning and preparation of weekly programs for our youngest museum visitors and their grownups while also conceptualizing innovative systems to meet the demands of our distinctive programs and events.
- Provide support for the seamless operation of our weekly drop in artmaking program, Open Studio, and artist-led and large scale programs, offering clear and effective direction for the team working on the program, including Interns, Social Impact Facilitators, and YI Leaders.
- Conceptualize detailed plans for material preparation, leading a team of interns to prepare for programs properly. This consists of ordering, organizing, processing, and storing all materials and tools.
- The Associate Coordinator will contribute to developing projects for Open Studio and in-gallery experiences for families under the guidance and support of the Senior Coordinator.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Community Programs and Partnerships team to deepen relationships with community partners, including WECAN meetings four times a year.
- Conduct outreach to community partners throughout NYC to attract new audiences to Open Studio.
- With support and direction from the Associate Manager of Family Programs, complete all administrative tasks related to Family Programs, including but not limited to educator and facilitator staff scheduling; submitting work orders and calendar requests; processing invoices; maintaining budgets, organizing department files and mailing lists; tracking program statistics; creating reports; updating web pages; writing email newsletters; and performing outreach and marketing .
- Collaborate across the Education Department on other collaborative projects such as artist residencies, outreach initiatives, or evaluation projects.
- BA or BFA in Art or Museum Education, Studio art, or American studies
- 2+ years’ experience working and/or teaching in museums or other cultural organizations
- Organizational and communication skills and multitasking ability
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others
- Knowledge of art materials and techniques and contemporary art and practice
- Demonstrated interest in working with diverse audiences and families and kids
- Proficiency in Spanish is a plus
- Compensation range of $55,000 - $58,000

The Associate Coordinator of Family and Community Programs supports the planning and implementation of all aspects of the Museum’s ongoing Family Programs. Whitney Family Programs offer weekly drop-in art making workshops, interactive tours, special events with artists, and interpretive materials that encourage kids and adults to learn about art together. This position also works with the Community Programs and Partnerships team to support large-scale community partner events and build awareness of the Education Department’s offerings for all ages amongst community partners.
The Associate Coordinator is required to work one weekend day each week. This position primarily supports Family Programs, with intermittent involvement in Community Programs and collaboration across the Social Impact division.
Planning and administrative office work happens Tuesday-Friday; Saturday or Sunday is devoted to programs. Some flexibility is required.Responsibilities:
