      Position Highlights

      The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix seeks an associate dean of research to provide vision and leadership in research and research development in the College. This position reports directly to the dean.

      The associate dean works closely with the vice deans, faculty, staff and department and college leadership to formulate the research vision, short- and long-term strategies and investments aligning with the College’s and University’s strategic plan as well as that of the U of A Health Sciences (UAHS) and national strategic research initiatives.

      The key responsibilities will be: 1) assist the dean and vice dean of research in research operations; 2) develop and implement strategic plans that increase the research funding in the College; 3) oversee expansion and marketing of core facilities; and 4) work with the Translational Research Office (TReO) and departments on policies for effective space management, space assignment, space requests and MOUs for space use

      The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching, research/scholarship, clinical service and/or service/outreach. They must qualify for an appointment at the rank of full professor.

      Duties & Responsibilities
      • Work with vice dean of research to analyze faculty grant performance and seeks mechanisms to assist faculty in maintaining and growing research.
      • Assist faculty in forming successful collaborative research groups.
      • Ensure alignment with the College and University strategic plans and to guide large proposals, limited solicitation projects, and future investments.
      • Expand research partnerships with industry.
      • Ensure compliance with College- and University-level policies for the responsible conduct of research as well as federal and state policies and procedures related to research.
      • Serve on committees for the College and University to advocate for the success of research-active faculty and the College’s research mission.
      Minimum Qualifications
      • Hold an PhD from an accredited institution.
      • Have an established program of research with current NIH funding as a principal investigator.
      • Demonstrate at least seven years administrative experience as a center, division or department head at a health sciences center or school of medicine.
      • Have experience with sources of research support: federal (NSF, DoD, NIH, DOE, etc.), private foundations and industry.
      • Demonstrate experience serving on NIH study sections.
      • Have experience in increasing national recognition and impact of faculty research.
      • Meet the University’s requirements for a tenured professor.

      • Demonstrated success in philanthropy related to innovation and discovery
      • Demonstrated experience in research strategic and tactical planning.
      • Demonstrated experience with program project and other large institutional grants.
