- Understand the implementation targets and develop an execution strategy to be successful in hitting those targets.
- Articulate strategic vision and build a coalition of business partners to execute that strategy.
- Communicate with upper management regularly on progress, gaps and opportunities with the API setup, and support experience.
- Create and foster a work environment that encourages people to continually improve, take risks, and achieve client satisfaction.
- Provide leadership direction, coaching and mentoring for the team.
- Manage a team of Process Analysts, Business Analysts (BAs) and operation consultants to successfully deliver high value on operational readiness documentation and training, as well as support the operation consultants implementing and supporting API connections with clients and partners.
- Design and build a robust API implementation and production operating model to support internal business partners, our clients and external partners.
- Provide budget oversight of the program to ensure that costs are aligned with estimates and allow us to achieve our target ROIs
- Establish credibility and maintain strong relationships with key business partners and help educate the organization on how API technology solutions can help streamline our internal operations and provide exceptional client service.
- A bachelor’s degree preferred and 7-10 years of relevant experience.
- At least 5 years’ experience managing an implementation or production-based team.
- 5-7 years’ experience/exposure to group insurance, products, and administration
- 5-7 years of project management experience preferred.
- Excellent people leadership skills with a proven track record to effectively coach, develop and motivate teams to achieve department, team and SLF goals.
- Strong organizational skills - accurate and detailed oriented.
- Strong collaboration skills - ability to work cross functionally.
- Strong decision-making capabilities
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex messages to diverse audiences clearly and succinctly.

- Solid working knowledge of Workday.
- Experience within the insurance industry preferred.
- Experience with managing teams in a virtual environment.
- Strong and effective service skills with the ability to resolve complex issues.
- A strong understanding of SLF’s current product offering, with an understanding of the current SLF strategic direction relating to product offerings is a bonus.

Position Summary:
Sun Life is focused on providing best-in-class digital experiences to connect with our clients and partners working towards streamlined and seamless integrations. To achieve this, we are building a team that can operationalize, implement, and support Application Program Interfaces (API) connectivity with our clients and partners.
Sun Life is seeking an experienced, proactive, and energetic Associate Director to lead this group. The successful candidate will lead a high-performing team in implementing and supporting APIs by understanding operational needs for the implementation team, production support team, and business operations. Reporting to Director, Digital Services, The API Center of Excellence (CoE) Associate Director will be accountable for ensuring operational readiness, implementing, and supporting new API connections with clients and partners as well as providing strong people leadership.
The Associate Director, API CoE will design and execute strategies to ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly targets are met and that the client experience is aligned with our distribution, underwriting, enrollment, and service teams. The AD will provide strategic direction and coaching to its team ensuring they are providing a best-in-class service to our clients and partners. Additional management responsibilities will include performance management, budget planning, reporting & analysis, and staffing/capacity planning.

If you are a California resident, the salary range for this position is:
Southern region: $123,300-185,000 annually.
Central region: $139,000- 208,500 annually.
Northern region: $130,000-195,00 annually.
If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $117,700-176,600 annually.
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $139,000-208,500 annually.
If you are Washington resident, the salary range for this position is $130,000-195,000 annually.
