      Job Description

      The Associate Director for the Community and Provider Input for Learning and Transformation (Co-Pilot) initiative leads strategic, communication, and operational leadership across various disciplines within the program. With the overarching objective of enhancing community engagement in all phases of research—from design to implementation—this role focuses on raising awareness, fostering trust, and increasing community participation. Key responsibilities include establishing and nurturing collaborative relationships with community members, healthcare providers, and researchers to leverage their collective insights and enhance research and innovation efforts. Additionally, the Associate Director promotes a leadership philosophy aligned with the values of Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute within Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

      Essential Job Functions:

      • Leads the daily operations of the Co-Pilot Initiative.

      • Collaborates with leaders to develop and implement a strategic vision and goals and objectives for the Community, Population Health and Outcome research pillar. Leads development of systems to achieve strategic vision.

      • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with community members, including local residents, organizations, and leaders, and care providers to enhance community engagement and support organizational initiatives.

      • Provides complex scientific and technical leadership in determining research priorities developed by the team, aid in the plan, design and execution of research projects ensuring that programs of investigation meet specified objectives.

      • Plans, develops and implements new processes and protocols to support research studies and maximize/extend study capabilities.

      • Ensures that study protocols are in compliance with appropriate rules and regulations and reviews study progress and recommends revisions, amendments, and/or other study changes as necessary to better meet needs of sponsors.

      • Reviews scientific literature and evaluates and recommends applicable techniques and procedures.

      • Responsible for HR related functions, including: hiring, timekeeping, performance evaluations, and terminations.

      • Prepares results and may co-author scientific papers for presentation and publication and disseminates information via seminars, lectures, etc.

      • Develops new proposals for research including obtaining financial support.

      • Acts as liaison between sponsoring agencies, collaborating organizations and/or other research and/or educational institutions.

      • Ensures that all study documents associated with current local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws and research protocols are completed in a timely manner.

      • May create and/or manage research study budgets which may include deciding on and approving expenditures of funds based on budget. In collaboration with designated Research Business Manager monitors accounts.

      • Other job functions as assigned.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

      • Appropriate combination of education and experience including 5 years' research study or other relevant experience required. Supervisory or project management experience required.

      • Excellent oral and written communication.

      • Demonstrated analytic ability, including problem solving skills.

      • Demonstrated organizational skills, including attention to detail, and the ability to work independently, manage complex tasks, develop effective systems to manage workload/follow-up, and manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines.

      • Strong relationship-building skills, characterized by outgoing demeanor, adeptness in engaging with individuals across all levels, proficient in balancing speaking and listening, and comfortable utilizing various communication channels.
