      Associate Director, Collection Services

      Job Description & Core Functions

      The Associate Director, Collection Services at Rowan University Libraries leads the Collection Services Team at Campbell Library in delivering core library infrastructure functions in support of the full university: coordinating the collection budget, the timely review of contracts, and acquisitions logistics; leading the cross-libraries Collection Development Group; and supporting the creation, collection, and review of statistics to build actionable internal dashboards and required external reporting. The Associate Director supervises Campbell’s team of acquisition and assessment specialists, ensuring cross-team training and backup for essential libraries functions. The position reports to the Director, Campbell Library and is a key member of the Campbell Leadership Team.

      Budget, Contracts, & Acquisitions

      The Associate Director is responsible for managing the Rowan University Libraries collection budgets. They serve as the primary contact for most Rowan University Libraries collection vendors, establishing and maintaining business relationships with them and assessing vendor performance, considering cost-saving multi-year or consortial agreements. They review existing and potential new contract language. They coordinate next steps of contract negotiation and procurement with relevant university offices. They supervise all aspects of resource acquisition for all Rowan University Libraries, including approval plans, firm orders, standing orders, subscriptions, and patron driven/evidence based acquisition. They are responsible for the team’s performance, including complying with university accounting and auditing requirements.

      Collection Development Group

      As the permanent leader of the Collection Development Group, the Associate Director is responsible for ensuring effective, data-driven review of libraries resource renewals and consideration of potential new resources. They consider requested trials and new continuing resource selection from the three cross-libraries Subject Clusters of liaisons and instruction librarians. They are responsible for building decision-making rubrics for prioritizing competing needs, and tracking metrics on the decisions made. They maintain and revise the Collection Development Policy for Rowan University Libraries.

      Analytics & Assessment

      The Associate Director supervises the gathering of collection-related statistics across the libraries, working to create efficiencies with direct vendor data ingest and in the creation of automated reporting and dashboards. They gather these statistics to inform the Collection Development Group’s work, to provide required external reporting, to tell effective data-driven stories about the libraries’ impact on student success, and to advocate to address unmet resource needs.

      Qualifications

      • Master’s Degree in a relevant field (MLS/MLIS, MBA, or other field related to role) or equivalent experience

      • 5 years academic library, finance, vendor-relations, or similar experience

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Experience managing and mentoring a Collections, Acquisitions, Licensing, Assessment, or similar team in an academic library

      • Experience with budget keeping and analysis

      • Experience in vendor relationship building and license negotiation

      • Strong facility with key academic library systems and tools (e.g. Alma, Rialto, Excel, Tableau)
      • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in order to conceptualize and pursue new solutions to complex problems as a self-starter requiring minimal supervision

      • Demonstrated ability to communicate, collaborate, and project manage effectively with a wide variety of audiences, stakeholders, and collaborators

      • Experience with a bargaining unit environment
