- Assume a vital role as a chemistry leader, contributing to the establishment of a cutting-edge medicinal chemistry group
- Lead drug discovery projects. Provide clear program strategy and timely, efficient delivery of candidate molecules of exceptional quality through scientific rigour and high-quality compound design
- Apply efficient and effective methodologies to complete hit-to-candidate medicinal chemistry campaigns to the highest standards and in short timescales
- Implement cutting-edge in-silico techniques to drive drug design
- Initiate and manage CRO collaborations to execute on multidisciplinary discovery activities
- Line manages members of the chemistry team
- Present at and contribute to internal company scientific and strategic review panels
- Compile candidate selection data packages and contribute to IND documentation
- Maintain competitive awareness for projects
- Be aware of external technology developments and opportunities for collaboration to enhance the development of company capabilities
- Oversee compilation and filing of patent applications
- Identify opportunities to publish chemistry-related company results
- Assist in establishing safe and effective working practices in company laboratories
- A PhD in organic chemistry
- 7+ years' experience in a medicinal chemistry role within biotech or pharma
- Track record of leading drug discovery projects to successful outcomes from hit ID to clinical candidate
- Demonstrated flair for structure-based drug design
- Creative problem-solving approach to typical medicinal chemistry challenges including ADME, physicochemical properties, safety pharmacology
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences
- A strong sense of urgency and focus to deliver successful outcomes
- Up to date awareness of the latest technology developments in drug design, synthesis and testing
- Experience in leading interdisciplinary or functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop scientists
- Significant track record of publications and patents
