      About Mind

We're Mind, the mental health charity. We're here to make sure no one has to face a mental health problem alone. We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We also campaign to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding.

Our new strategy, launched in April 2021, has the following priorities at its heart:

      • Become a truly anti-racist organisation
      • Support young people – with a focus on trauma
      • Fight for the mental health of people in poverty

With our new strategy, all of Mind’s work – our support services, our campaigns, our partnerships, as well as how we work internally – will embrace these large, complex and interconnected priorities.

      About the role

The Associate Director of Policy and Influencing is an exciting newly created leadership opportunity.

This position has been created to have a significant impact on the mental health landscape by promoting positive social change. You will be responsible for leading Mind's efforts to address the shortcomings in the nation's mental health response that are contributing to the current mental health crisis. Your role involves advocating for the rights, needs, and priorities of individuals who experience mental health problems and ensuring that their voices are heard by national and local governments, public services, employers, and other key organisations in England and Wales.

You will work closely with the Executive Director of Social Change to develop and execute Mind's social change strategy. You will oversee Mind's policy and campaigning work, national, regional and local influencing work, anti-stigma work, strategic litigation and legal advice, and thought leadership work. Your contributions will be essential in advancing Mind's mission to create a society that promotes and protects good mental health for everyone.

The Associate Director for Policy and Influencing will lead a team of approximately 30 staff with 5 direct reports and be responsible for a budget of 2.5 million.

      About you

If you have experience in driving positive social change through policy, campaigning and influencing at both local and national levels, we would love to hear from you.

You know how to build productive professional relationships and partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders including UK government departments, and members of parliament, and have experience working successfully as a senior leader in a complex organisation.
