      A Day in the Life…
      The Associate Director, Sports is responsible for the leadership, development, and implementation of an overall comprehensive high-performance varsity sport program that supports student athletes and varsity coaches through a student athlete centered approach to provincial and national prominence and enhances the reputation of the University. The role oversees the intentional program principles of equity, diversity and inclusion that supports student athletes, and coaches.

      The Associate Director, Sports is responsible for the successful day to day varsity operations that includes human resource management, overseeing university sport scheduling, ensuring OUA/USPORTS and regulatory body sport compliance, strategic planning and development, and financial and budget management that oversees annual fundraising revenue generation metrics. The role promotes and enhances the reputation of Brock sports and the university, by fostering community and alumni engagement, collaborating with internal and external partners both on and off campus and at a provincial and national level.

      As the Associate Director, Sports, you will:

      • Review and evaluate annual program plan proposals and schedules for each sport;
      • Oversee the operational supports provided to student athletes and ensure plans promote a healthy balance of athletic and academic experience;
      • Oversee coach and team personnel support staff hiring practices;
      • Review and approve recruitment and retention plans for all sports;
      • Oversee and ensure compliance of all OUA/USPORTS and regulatory bodies for the operation of sport;
      • Manage and coordinate sport travel and scheduling of all competitive schedules, provincially and nationally;
      • Provide high level oversight and support of all varsity student athlete admissions/registration, eligibility, selection, recruitment, academic monitoring, and administration of the athletic financial award process;
      • Oversee University sport compliance to ensure no breach or regulatory violation occurs that would risk the reputation of the University;
      • Direct annual sport program evaluations and fundraising activities;
      • Direct the development, execution and monitoring of assigned budgets; implement and maintain financial budgets for sport operations;
      • Manage the scholarship, bursary, and awards budget, including endowments to support student athletes and team competitiveness;
      • Develop the strategic direction for Brock Sports varsity teams, in support of both Brock Sports & Recreation and the University’s mission and strategic mandates with the involvement of departmental staff and students;
      • Establish and monitor metrics to track sport operational performance and assessment for annual goals;
      • Recommend improvements to program offerings, structure, policy procedures, service delivery, and resource allocations;
      • Actively incorporate equity, diversity, and inclusion concepts and initiatives into all aspects of programs and practices;
      • Investigate informal complaints and concerns that come forward to the department;
      • Manage the development of student athlete and coach training and education to foster a culture of safe sport.

      What you need to Succeed…

      • Undergraduate Degree in Sport Management, Kinesiology, other similar discipline;
      • Valid G class driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract;
      • 6-8 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics and/or recreational program, in a post-secondary environment;
      • 3-5 years of experience in a leadership, manager, or supervisor role;
      • Extensive knowledge of Brock University varsity sports and clubs;
      • Demonstrated ability to develop strategy and align policies and practices to meet goals;
      • Knowledge of the Brock University environment, rules, regulations, processes, administration, USports and OUA regulations, and FIPPA legislation;
      • Strong computer skills and competency with spreadsheets, email, word processing, database software packages;
      • Experience in budgeting, metrics, and creation of reports;
      • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to champion change and gain support for new initiatives;
      • Promotes and exhibits diversity and respect in the workplace and community;
      • Ability to establish and maintain sound working relationships, develop trust and confidence, and leverage support across reporting lines;
      • Ability to act with patience and diplomacy and foster a cooperative team environment;
      • Adaptable and prepared to enable an environment that fosters personal agility in the face of organizational changes;
      • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated project management skills.

      Preferred or Asset Skills…

      • Master’s Degree; and
      • Coaching experience.


      Salary and Benefit Information

      • Job Grade (O), Salary Scale ($83,440-$143,040)*;
      • Target Hiring Range: $83,440-$120,000;
      • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

      *The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
