      Associate Director, STEAM and Experiential Learning Programs, Office of Community Engagement and Inclusion

      Summary: Reporting to the Director of Engaged Scholarship and Community Engagement, The Associate Director, STEAM and Experiential Learning Programs is a position charged with overseeing the creation, implementation and evaluation of pioneering efforts to bring Barnard’s resources to communities throughout New York City. As a member of the CEI leadership team, the AD will be responsible for the operations, management, and evaluation of STEAM in the City and other experiential learning initiatives at Barnard. The AD will work with the CEI Director to identify, propose and support similar programming opportunities. Together with the CEI Director, the AD will support relationship building and collaboration with both on and off-campus partners and to maximize the College’s civic engagement in and with communities and institutions throughout NYC.

      Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

      KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Program Development & Implementation: Expand and evaluate interdisciplinary programs integrating science, technology, engineering, art and math (i.e STEAM in the City, Morningside Explorers and other community partnership programs)

      • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with faculty and staff to develop groundbreaking initiatives that enrich the learning experience.

      • Inclusive Program Management: Oversee daily office operations, ensuring safety compliance and fostering a welcoming community where all members of Barnard’s communities can explore and innovate.

      • Event & Residency Coordination: Plan events, residencies, and experiential learning activities that enhance Barnard’s community engagement priorities.

      • Student Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor a dedicated team of student staff, supporting hands-on learning and collaborative projects.

      • Community Building & Creativity: Cultivate an inclusive, practice-based learning community of NYC educators that integrates emerging STEAM learning with Barnard’s strengths in creative and interdisciplinary work.

      The role requires on-site work four days a week with one remote day along with availability and willingness to work some evenings and/or weekends as needed. This is primarily an administrative position and previous experience with K-12 education in NYC is required.

      QUALIFICATION SUMMARY

      Required Education:

      • Master’s Degree or ABD in Interdisciplinary STEAM field, Education, Public Administration, Education, Communications, Public Policy or related areas

      Preferred Education:

      • PhD in Interdisciplinary STEAM field, Education, Public Administration, Education, Communications, Public Policy or related areas

      Required Experience:

      • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in managing educational programming, ideally in collaborative and creative partnership with other institutions.

      • Experience working in/with higher education institutions

      • Experience with K-12 education, preferably in STEAM related areas

      Preferred Experience

      • 3+ years of experience working in a higher education institution and particularly with students in a liberal arts and sciences environment.

      • Experience in civic engagement and high level of interpersonal skills and relationship building.

      • Demonstrated success in community building among diverse communities in diverse settings

      Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

      • Expertise across the STEAM/education/community engagement in higher education boundary.

      • Ability to manage toward committed and measurable outcomes.

      • Highly collaborative in a team environment.

      • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

      • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a high attention-to-detail.

      Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

      • Fluency in Spanish

      • Experience with program evaluation

      • Proficient in MS Office Applications, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, and other common design software and tools.

      • Experience in data analytics and data visualization a plus.


      Salary Range: $80,000-86,000

      The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
