      Department Overview

      This position is in the Pipeline Services department within the Gas Transmission Engineering organization in Gas Engineering. Gas Engineering contributes to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of PG&E’s gas transmission and distribution system including over 6,500 miles of gas transmission and 40,000 miles of gas distribution pipelines throughout California.

      The Gas Transmission team is focused on doing the right work, at the right time and at the right cost. This is accomplished by ensuring our records are traceable, verifiable and complete; developing a clear understanding of codes and standards; understanding asset condition and performance data; and leveraging technology to improve the health of our assets.

      The Pipeline Services Department oversees the technical services function, a field-based organization that reinforces the concept of asset ownership and promotes healthy collaboration with operations. Specifically, Pipeline Services provides pipeline and some station asset maintenance engineering services to the M&C organizations and the many other departments in the Gas Operations organization.

      Position Summary

      This Associate Gas “Pipeline” Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering, and technical support for gas transmission assets. The associate level engineer will be responsible for supporting the area engineers within the Bay Area and Southern Regions. The most qualified candidates for this position shall have an understanding and technical background working with gas distribution and transmission pipelines, pipeline engineering, pipeline construction, and effective interpersonal and communication skills.

      Position is hybrid and work headquarters is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory between the listed cities (there is a preference for the Central Valley), hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need:

      a. San Ramon

      b. Tracy

      c. Stockton

      d. Modesto

      e. Fresno

      f. Bakersfield

      g. San Jose

      h. Oakland

      Travel will be up to approximately 20% of work schedule.

      This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

      PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

      A reasonable salary range is:

      Bay Area Minimum:$95,000

      Bay Area Maximum:$143,000

      &/OR

      California Minimum:$90,000

      California Maximum: $136,000

      This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

      Responsibilities

      • Performs basic engineering work using established engineering tools, processes and practices to complete work assignments

      • Partners with more experienced engineers to develop knowledge

      • Assists with more complex projects

      • Leads small teams to address asset issues

      • Receives priorities and directions with regard to work performed from supervisor or manager

      • Reviews work performed with supervisor periodically

      • Completes well defined tasks independently

      • Has basic knowledge of applicable principles, codes, regulations, polices, and procedures

      • Stand on-call for transmission pipeline or station incidents during off-hours

      Qualifications-

      Minimum:

      • BS Engineering
      • Valid California driver’s license

      Desired:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Civil Engineering
      • Understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) 49CFR Part 192 codes and regulations and California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) GO 112F
      • Professional Engineering Registration in either Mechanical or Civil Engineering or Engineer-in-Training certificate
      • Basic understanding of the threats and risk on a pipeline
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
      • Ability to excel with limited guidance as well as in a team
      • Able to work well in office or field environment
      • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, and Outlook
      • Project management experience
      • Working knowledge or experience in gas operations or gas system planning
      • Experience in developing and administering contracts and specifications
      • SAP experience in job ownership, materials, financials
      • Prior experience including one or more of the following:
        • Gas Distribution construction /field engineering
        • Gas Transmission construction /field engineering
        • Large diameter steel pipeline construction/field engineering
