      Job Description:

      UPS is seeking a talented and motivated Associate General Counsel to join its global legal team in Atlanta, GA. The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee and manage single-plaintiff employment litigation. This position reports to a Deputy General Counsel, who reports to the Company’s General Counsel.

      Job Description

      The Associate General Counsel will manage a broad array of employment-related disputes, involving both unionized and non-unionized employees. The individual in this role manages outside counsel to oversee the defense of matters in federal and state courts and with administrative agencies throughout the United States; draft and negotiate settlement and separation agreements; and supervise internal Case Managers and Administrative Assistants.

      Responsibilities and Duties

      • Coordinates with outside counsel in the representation of the Company’s position to ensure a consistent, accurate, and complete explanation and defense of UPS’s legal position
      • Collaborates with outside counsel in developing strategies for cases to ensure matters are defended and resolved appropriately and in a cost-effective manner
      • Reviews invoices from outside counsel to ensure accuracy and to contain legal costs
      • Tracks outside counsel expenditures against financial targets and provides forecasts of future expenditures
      • Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Performance Management, Career Development, Succession Planning, Salary Administration, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day-to-day administration of processes and formal procedures
      • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities to facilitate individual and team development

      Knowledge and Skills

      • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment and labor laws
      • Significant experience managing employment litigation matters in federal and state courts
      • Ability to effectively manage a large litigation docket and outside counsel
      • Experience advising clients on employment-related matters and risks
      • Ability to use multiple strategies to remove barriers to agreements, persuade others, and win concessions effectively
      • Strategic and analytical thinker who works collaboratively internally and externally
      • Prioritizes complex, material, and/or multi-functional risks to the enterprise; provides guidance regarding risk treatments
      • Ability to learn and apply processes, procedures, and methods within UPS’s operations in detail

      Qualifications

      • Minimum of six years at a law firm and/or in-house with employment law and employment litigation experience in federal and state courts
      • Traditional labor law experience – Preferred
      • Experience managing employees – Preferred
      • Must be a member of a state bar in good standing, with an active license
      • Must be currently located in the geographic area of the position or willing to relocate yourself
