Associate General Counsel - Infrastructure & Telecom

As a key member of the Legal Infrastructure & Telecom team, the candidate will play a critical role in driving innovation and business growth by providing strategic legal guidance on complex infrastructure projects, with a focus on enabling Meta's AI initiatives. The candidate will collaborate closely with Meta's world-class Infrastructure team and cross-functional teams to navigate regulatory landscapes, mitigate commercial risks, and drive results that support Meta's mission. This role will be responsible for advising on legal and regulatory requirements associated with infrastructure, negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, potentially engaging with regulators in the US and abroad, and responding to government inquiries. The ideal candidate would have relevant experience in advising business units on infrastructure and telecom legal and regulatory issues, drafting or reviewing complex technical contracts (preferably relating to telecommunications or infrastructure), acting as a liaison between cross-functional teams on projects where required, and finding forward-thinking solutions to help the company advance its business objectives and re-examine and manage legal risks. As an Assistant General Counsel for Infrastructure & Telecom, you will get to advise on novel and complex legal issues, deal with ambiguous regulatory environments, negotiate with experienced counterparties, and help build the infrastructure that empowers billions of people to share their ideas, build community, and communicate every day across Meta's family of apps and services.

      Responsibilities

      1. Developing practical legal guidance to empower our Infrastructure teams.
      2. Advise on legal and regulatory risks associated with infrastructure and telecom services, coordinate with other internal regulatory and policy teams to respond to regulatory inquiries and disputes, and support/develop advocacy related to emerging laws and regulations.
      3. Draft and negotiate agreements, including joint build agreements and contracts for the construction or use of fiber-optic terrestrial and subsea cable systems, dark fiber leases and IRUs, and colocation agreements.
      4. Identify issues and collaborate with and lead other internal teams (e.g., Finance, Tax, Compliance) and external counsel to structure appropriate commercial frameworks and support global network initiatives.
      5. Handle administration and resolution of legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships.
      6. Travel as and when required.

      Minimum Qualifications

      1. Minimum 8 years post-qualification experience in a common law jurisdiction (or equivalent).
      2. Experience drafting and negotiating infrastructure and/or telecommunications agreements, in-house in a cloud, carrier/telecom company, or law firm supporting complex global telecommunications and/or technology.
      3. Diligent, well organized and experienced in managing numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
      4. Effective communication skills and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality.

      Preferred Qualifications

      1. Advocacy experience with government entities on regulatory and policy matters.
