      Associate General Counsel, Employment Law

      We are seeking an Associate General Counsel to join as an employment lawyer in the Labor and Employment Group in New York City. Qualified candidates will have a J.D. Degree and a minimum of 6 years of employment law experience, including a minimum of 4 years experience in the Employment Law department of a major law firm. In-house experience and international employment law exposure a plus. The candidate will report to the senior attorney responsible for managing the Employment law docket for the General Insurance businesses.

      This position requires a high degree of independent analysis and judgment, as well as the ability to work directly with Human Resources and Employee Relations staff, Business and Functional partners, as well as outside counsel.

      Candidates will be responsible for advising senior business and HR partners on employment-related legal issues impacting AIG. Candidates should have a broad range of employment law and arbitration/litigation experience including:

      · Title VII, ADEA, ADA and state discrimination/retaliation matters, including the preparation of position statements and representing the Company before the EEOC and state and local agencies;

      · Reductions in force (including WARN issues), performance management, leave issues, and performance-related and cause terminations;

      · Legal assistance with respect to growth, acquisition and divestiture activities, including supporting due diligence and advising on the HR and employee sections of transaction documentation;

      · Advising on the rapidly changing legal and regulatory environment, particularly at the state and local levels, including, by way of example only, laws regarding WARN, sexual harassment, restrictive covenant enforceability, background checks, diversity, pay transparency and enforceability of arbitration agreements;

      · Advising Employee Relations partners with respect to its investigations;

      · Defending FLSA and state wage/hour matters;

      · Arbitration and mediation of disputes; and

      · Handling SOX, Dodd-Frank and state whistleblower actions.

      Additional positive attributes of a qualified candidate include:

      · Detail-oriented and well-organized, with ability to keep track of and meet deadlines, prioritize, multi-task and maintain flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced changing environment;

      · Ability to perform duties and meet needs of clients and team members in a reliable, responsive and efficient manner, with a sense of urgency;

      · Oversee and manage outside counsel in results-oriented, efficient manner;

      · Ability to proactively share updates and relevant information with multiple stakeholders and work effectively with these stakeholders;

      · Ability to proactively address conflict and difficult situations in a professional, assertive and productive manner and navigate large, multifaceted projects from issue identification through resolution with a minimum of supervision;

      · Strong problem-solving and project management skills;

      · Excellent written, verbal, negotiation, training and presentation skills;

      · Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution programs, including the ability to handle mediations; and

      · Knowledge of the insurance industry a plus.

      For this position based in New York Ci ty, the base salary range is $220,000 - $250,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
