      Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, t he Associate General Counsel (AGC) , Practice Group Head, Retirement Savings Solutions will be a key member of the Law Department Executive Team and will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice to the Retirement Solutions business. As part of this role, the AGC will form deep relationships with enterprise and business line senior stakeholders while delivering critical advice and counsel as part of shaping the strategy and expansion of th e business and mitigating legal and regulatory risks.

      Key responsibilities of this role are as follows:

      Legal Expertise and Oversight

      • Provide expert legal advice in the retirement solutions space and counsel senior management and key stakeholders on complex legal issues

      • Develop deep relationships with internal stakeholders such that Retirement Solutions legal team is an early participant in strategic planning

      • Partner with stakeholders and Law Department peers to develop and offer innovative solutions

      • Provide proactive oversight of emerging legal issues and trends, including changes to laws and regulations

      Leadership & Team Management

      • Part of Law Department Executive Team setting direction and mission of department

      • Lead, manage, mentor and develop a team of attorneys within the Retirement Savings Solutions Pr actice G roup

      • Develop strategic priorities for the practice group , in alignment with the organization’s legal and business objectives

      • Oversee the day-to-day operations o f the P ractice G roup

      • Foster a collaborative high-performance culture within the Law department to advocate for, advise on and advance Guardian’s strategic objectives

      Strategic Planning

      • Develop and implement the Practice Group ’s strategic goals , playing a critical role i n shaping the Practice Group

      • Partner closely with the business to advise and influence strategic direction in accordance with long term objectives

      Stakeholder Collaboration

      • Collaborate with senior leadership, business units to ensure a cohesive legal strategy and alignment with organizational goals

      • Act as trusted advisor to senior management and key stakeholders , helping to shape business decisions by providing legal insights

      Operational Management

      • Manage resource allocation and financial planning for the practice ; partner with legal operations to identify opportunities for innovation

      • Establish relevant operational policies and procedures for the Practice Grou p

      Risk Management

      • Identify , assess and mitigate legal risk within the practice group’s purview

      • Develop and implement policies, procedures and controls to ensure legal compliance

      • Enable stakeholder understanding of legal risks and best practices

      Performance Development

      • Foster a culture of continuous professional development, offering training and growth opportunities for team members

      • Set clear expectations, conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to support individual and team success

      Qualifications:

      • JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in a US jurisdiction

      • 15+ years of legal practice with extensive legal experience in life insurance and retirement savings products

      • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing and developing high performing legal teams in a corporate setting

      • Proven track record in providing strategic guidance to senior leadership

      • Strong communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence and collaborate across different levels of the organization

      • Problem solving skills and the ability to navigate complex legal issues

      The position is based in New York , with an in-office expectation of 3 days per week.

      Salary Range


      $300,000 - $345,000

      The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
