      Req#: 49168

      Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.

      Job Title: Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Research Cross-Journal Team, Nature Portfolio

      Location(s): New York, Washington DC, Jersey City, or Philadelphia (Hybrid Working)

      Application Closing Date: 16 October 2023

      Springer Nature is seeking Associate or Senior Editors to join the Research Cross-Journal Team.

      These exciting positions involve being part of a team of editors that will work closely — and flexibly — with the existing Nature Research Journals. The main focus of these roles is to support editorial processes relating to manuscript assessment and the peer-review process; there will also be opportunities to commission, edit and write content for these journals. Successful candidates will work with different Nature Research Journals, working closely with Chief Editors and journal teams, while reporting to the Head of the Research Cross-Journal Team.

      The ideal candidates will have a broad knowledge of, and ideally research experience in, scientific areas relevant to one or more of the Nature Research Journals. These are challenging and intellectually stimulating roles that call for highly motivated individuals with excellent writing, speaking, and time-management skills; candidates should have the ability to absorb new areas quickly and must have a keen interest in the practice and communication of science.

      We are seeking applicants with a range of expertise that aligns with the subjects covered by the journals in the Nature Portfolio, particularly candidates who feel confident working across multiple topic areas; we are especially interested in candidates with backgrounds in environmental science, molecular/cell biology, computational sciences, clinical statistics, neuroscience, immunology, biotechnology, methods, materials science, social sciences, applied sciences, physics or chemistry.

      Applicants must have a relevant PhD; postdoctoral experience may be an advantage but is not required. Editorial experience is also not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for a Senior Editor position.

      Another aspect of the job will be liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences.

      To apply, please send:

      • a brief cover letter explaining your interest in the position, relevant experience, salary expectations and current notice period;
      • a CV;
      • a ‘Research Highlight’-style piece (up to 300 words) summarizing a recent exciting literature paper; please indicate, in a few sentences, why this paper is worthy of highlighting and in which of the Nature Research Journals it would be published. Please do not highlight a paper that was published in Nature or one of the Nature Research Journals

      The positions are offered on a full-time, permanent basis and can be located in our New York, Washington DC, Jersey City, or Philadelphia offices (Hybrid Working). Other Springer Nature offices in China and Europe will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. Internal applicants from other journals hub locations may also apply. The candidates will be considered as they apply, therefore, early applications are encouraged.
