Job Description
- Req#: 49910
- Commission journal content including narrative Reviews and short opinion pieces
- Work closely with authors throughout the writing and revision process by providing feedback on synopses, developmentally editing first drafts, and line-by-line editing final manuscripts before acceptance
- Organize and manage peer-review
- Liaise between authors and the internal Art editors to ensure the best visual communication of ideas in figures and other display items
- Write Research Highlights and other editorial content
- Interact extensively with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences, virtually or in-person
- A PhD (and ideally post-doctoral experience) in any topic relevant to the journal; the preferred areas of expertise are either musculoskeletal science or immunology
- Ability to absorb new areas of research, and identify new developments and research trends in fields beyond their immediate speciality
- Demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctness and language (which will be assessed during the interview process)
- Strong writing ability
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Willingness to travel to meet scientists, discuss their research and Review ideas, and advocate for the journal
- Editorial experience is not required but is an advantage.

Nature Reviews Rheumatology (https://www.nature.com/nrrheum/) is recruiting a full-time Associate or Senior Editor. This is an exciting opportunity to join the editorial team of the top rheumatology journal in the world. We are particularly interested in applicants with a background in rheumatology or clinical immunology, but we would welcome applications from outstanding candidates in any area of immunology.
Nature Reviews Rheumatology covers a wide range of topics relating to the pathogenesis, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases, including arthritis, musculoskeletal disorders and systemic autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases. Basic, translational and clinical aspects of these disorders are considered in the journal’s in-depth, authoritative Review articles and Perspectives, evidence-based and eminence-based recommendations, and opinion and news pieces, which include discussions of genetics, immunology, epidemiology, imaging, therapeutics, and clinical outcomes.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Associate or Senior Editor with broad scientific knowledge and an interest in the practice and communication of rheumatology.

The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, and will be located in our New York or Heidelberg offices. All employees will be expected to be based in the office in line with Springer Nature’s hybrid working policies. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity.
