- Group facilitation skills for use with community workshops

POSITIONThe Community Development Department is strongly oriented towards quality customer service and is looking to fill the position of Associate Planner with a candidate that is highly motivated and has excellent interpersonal skills. The Associate Planner serves as the intermediate level in the professional series of urban planning job classifications.The City is only accepting online applications for this recruitment. As such, you must complete and submit an online application and completely answer all supplemental questions to be considered for this position.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Associate Planner, under general/limited supervision of the City Planner, serves to provide information and assistance to developers, the business community, and the public on planning, zoning, and development related matters. The Associate Planner also prepares and presents staff reports to the Planning Commission and City Council, provides staff assistance to the City Planner on both current and advanced planning projects, and performs other related duties and responsibilities as required by the field of urban planning.The Associate Planner confers with and provides consultative advice to architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, and the general public regarding City development policies and standards; Reviews development proposals and applications for compliance with the City's Zoning Ordinance and consistency with the General Plan; Performs field surveys to identify problems and ensure conformance with project conditions and development standards; Prepares CEQA documentation to evaluate environmental impacts; Reviews, assigns and processes land use entitlements, including site plan reviews, conditional use permits, variances, subdivisions, General Plan amendments, and zoning code amendments; Interprets and applies land use, environmental quality, subdivision, and general planning laws and regulations to ensure compliance of City commercial, industrial and residential development projects with the Zoning Code.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAny combination of education, training and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for successful job performance. This position is subject to and dependent on the continued availability of funds and the manpower needs of the City of Bell Gardens.
