- Good communication skills and ability to comprehend and give clear statements that are understood by patients/staff
- Able to follow instructions and learn standard techniques Methodical and organized Manual dexterity
- Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail, even under pressure
- Ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment
- Good keyboard/VDU skills
- Physical skills: including hand-eye coordination, dexterity and manipulation Able to plan, manage and prioritise own
- workload ensuring completion in a timely and accurate manner
- Demonstrates an understanding of the role of the assistant practitioner
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality requirements
- Awareness of Equal Opportunity and diversity issues

Job summary
Associate Practitioner - Haematology and Blood Transfusion (QEH)
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership's (ESEL) Haematology and Blood Transfusion Departments.
We are looking to appoint an Associate Practitioner with an enthusiastic and positive attitude to working in a flexible manner (participation in the Agenda for Change shift system), committed to supporting the clinical services of the Trust and meeting the needs of our patients.
Main duties of the job
Experience is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate will integrate with the technical & scientific laboratory team primarily at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and will take direction from Biomedical Scientists in supporting Operational Leads for ESEL sites. The candidate may be requested to cover other partnership Essential Service Laboratories sites depending on service demands at Homerton Healthcare, Newham University Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital Site, University Hospital Lewisham, Whipp's Cross Hospital or Royal London Hospital.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.
The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.
Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.
The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE.
