      Our Early Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) Medicinal Chemistry Department is a critical player in the design and discovery of drug molecules . We are proud of our heritage of successful delivery of clinical candidates to human testing, leading to new medicines for patients. Here, we work agnostically to molecular modality and have expertise in sma ll molecules, PROTACs, peptides, oligonucleotides, and drug conjugates.

      We drive our pipeline and areas of scientific leadership internally and in partnership with world experts, which provides you as a scientist with the unique opportunity to stay at the forefront of science.

      Accountabilities:

      As an Associate Principal Scientist, you will be based at AstraZeneca’s dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden. Your role will be lab-based and focused on synthetic chemistry and the enablement of novel drug molecules. You will actively contribute to AstraZeneca’s portfolio of drug projects using your synthesis, route planning, data generation, and data interpretation skills. There will be opportunities to further develop both your synthetic and medicinal chemistry knowledge together with the experts in the department.

      Essential Skills/Experience:

      • Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry/Synthetic Chemistry with relevant multi-year industry experience.

      • Strong synthetic chemistry knowledge: ability to plan, prioritize and perform work independently, including synthetic route design and problem-solving.

      • Scientific curiosity and creativity: ability to identify , develop and apply new technologies and ways of working.

      • Demonstrated leadership of others to solutions of complex synthetic problems.

      • Great awareness of recent literature as well as current developments and trends in organic synthesis.

      • Highly self-motivated and capable of analyzing complex data and deciding on a focused course of action.

      • Excellent teamwork, collaboration, networking, and communication skills.

      • Track record of communication of your work both to senior chemistry leaders and in scientific papers and documents.

      Desirable Skills/Experience:

      Experience of route design and scale up chemistry in an industrial setting is preferred but not essential.
