- To work with the Publishing team, and collaborate with the existing Associate Scientific Editor, to help facilitate the growth and development of Social Sciences & Humanities Open, including the identification, acquisition, management, and development of high impact social science content, and helping to facilitate the content pipeline;
- To establish and maintain close contacts with the social sciences communities in academia and industry, and to work directly with authors, reviewers, and editors to help manage an efficient, rigorous and author friendly peer review process which maintains high professional and academic standards.
- Overseeing and supporting the peer review process: screening new manuscript for compliance with basic journal requirements and assigning to relevant subject editor;
- Ensuring efficient article transfer opportunities within the Elsevier Social Sciences portfolio collaborating with the internal transfer team as well as external parties;
- Supporting the subject editors and publisher to build a network of editors, scientific reviewers, and authors across the social sciences;
- Working with the publisher to build effective infrastructure for the journal, including improvement of internal processes and editorial team development;
- Monitoring and updating the journal webpages to ensure ongoing relevance and factual accuracy.
- Providing ongoing reporting to management team, and reporting/analysis as required to support ongoing journal development;
- Being responsible for managing the solicitation of journal content in new and emerging social science fields;
- Editorial expansion/innovation in related fields.
- Have a Post Graduate degree in a Social Science; PhD a plus, but not essential;
- Have understanding and be interested in academic publishing;
- Be customer-focused, attentive;
- Have excellent interactive, team working skills and a drive to collaborate across multiple internal departments, ability to connect with a broad range of people as well as to work independently;
- Have excellent communication skills and be prepared to work somewhat independently from the rest of the immediate team while also contributing to team initiatives;
- Be flexible, analytical, and proactive; ability to think critically about a wide range of research issues;
- Have excellent written and verbal English communications;
- Have experience of authoring and the peer review process would be helpful, but not essential;
- Have an interest in helping achieve success for early career researchers and those new to international, peer reviewed publishing.

About our Team
The Social Sciences Journals team is comprised of 11 Publishers: 5 in Oxford (UK), 4 in London (UK), 1 in Amsterdam (NL) and 1 in Beijing (China); And 1 Associate Scientific Editor also based in Amsterdam (NL). The role will report directly to the Publisher Social Sciences and Humanities Open, currently based in Oxford, UK.
About the role
We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic colleague to work alongside the Publisher and existing Associate Scientific Editor to help further grow, shape and develop Social Sciences & Humanities Open, a significant, recently launched open access title within the Social Sciences Journals team. This role will balance academic research knowledge with efficiency, analytic skills, network development and creativity.
Location UK or the Netherlands (London, Oxford or Amsterdam).
