      Position Description:

      Associate Specialist

      Basic Functions and Responsibility

      As a member of the Site Safety & Environment (S&E) team, work collaboratively to ensure that compliant environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs are developed and implemented within operating departments at the Rahway and Kenilworth sites.

      Integrates EHS programs into daily operations to assure regulatory compliance, achieves continuous performance improvement, meeting EHS performance objectives. Partners with key stakeholders in research (labs and pilot plants), office, and facility support to develop priorities to achieve these goals in alignment with site business priorities. Performs responsibilities and addresses challenges.

      Primary Activities

      • Supports the site’s records and completion of regulatory submissions, notifications, etc. required to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local EHS requirements

      • EHS Program support, including but not limited to, performing ergonomic evaluations, high-risk program permit recording and review, conducting hazard assessments, incident investigations using root cause analysis techniques, environmental regulatory field analysis, environmental reports and permit applications, as required.

      • Supports the site’s Industrial Hygiene programs including sampling collection, equipment management including calibration and maintenance recordkeeping and field support, as well as sampling and performing assessments.

      • Supports the site’s respiratory protection program through performance of respirator fit testing and tracking of user records.
      • Develops EHS procedures, guidelines and training programs as assigned.
      • Provides guidance to formation of and participates in sustained performance of action oriented EHS committees.
      • Manages EHS information and compliance using site’s EHS management systems.
      • Performs area inspections for compliance including periodic documentation review.
      • Supports implementation of compliance initiatives for operating areas.
      • Responding to site EHS incidents, as requested.
      • Assists with EHS data collection, modeling, trending, regulatory report submissions and training development/delivery.

      Position Qualifications:

      Education Minimum Requirement:

      • Bachelor’s Degree required, concentration in a Science, Engineering or Safety or Environmental related technical discipline preferred.

      Required Experience and Skills:

      • Minimum 1-3 years applied professional experience in an industrial safety, environmental and/or general EHS role.

      • Supporting role in environmental compliance, occupational and process safety awareness, critical thinking, communication skills, problem solving and project management techniques.

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

      • Self-motivated, proactive, and can-do attitude.

      • Service and result-oriented mindset.

      • Ability to handle potentially stressful situations with a positive attitude.

      Preferred Experience and Skills:

      • Strong systems and IT knowledge including Microsoft applications a plus.

      • Demonstrated performance in a highly regulated industry with strict standards adherence and compliance initiatives.

      U.S. Hybrid Work Model

      Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, generally Tuesday, Wednesday and either Monday or Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence.       $68,400.00 - $107,700.00
