      Req#: 4513268
This is a recruitment for two positions. One permanent full-time position and one limited duration full-time position expected to last two years. This is subject to change.

Hello, we’re Metro ! Metro is dedicated to shaping a better future for the greater Portland region. The work the people of Metro do every day benefits the lives of the people who live here, today, and tomorrow.

Metro’s transportation planning program addresses the big-picture needs of our growing region. Where should our future MAX lines go? How can we make our freeways work better while also producing less pollution and contributing to global warming? How can we best work with the 24 cities and 3 counties in the greater Portland region to make travel on our streets truly safe – especially for people walking, cycling or using transit? We answer these questions working with our elected officials and the larger community to create the Metro’s Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), the blueprint for all transportation planning in our region.

Among the most important outcomes envisioned in the RTP is dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions related to transportation in our region. Under state law, the Metro region must meet specific climate targets that will help Oregon make its contribution to global efforts to mitigate global warming. Both of the Associate Transportation Planner positions in this recruitment will assist in our work on this front.

As the Associate Transportation Planner you will:
      • Work with Metro’s transportation planning team to support the region’s Climate Smart Strategy.
      • Work with local government partners and community advocates to advance climate policy through local transportation plans.
      • Work with the transportation planning team on other projects related to regional transportation planning.
      Attributes for success:
      • Passionate about the future of our region and your role helping transportation shape sustainable communities.
      • Passionate about the climate policy, and the need to reach the region’s greenhouse gas reduction targets for transportation.
      • Thrives in a team environment, where supporting one another, believing in our work and taking initiative are the secret power to our success.
      • Strong writing and presentation skills.
      • Strong research and analysis skills using complex data sets.
      • Strong skills using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
      DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
At Metro, we strive to cultivate diversity, advance equity, and practice inclusion in all of its work. This means attracting and empowering a workforce that is inclusive of a broad range of human qualities. Workplace diversity is both a moral imperative and a business strength, essential to providing quality support and services to our region. Metro’s goal is to hire, develop and retain highly skilled and talented individuals across all departments and programs who best reflect the diversity of our community.
