      Brief Description of Duties

      The Associate Vice President reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is a member of the Operations leadership team. The AVP will employ executive-level direction and management oversight for the delivery of business solutions, project management, contract administration, and program assessment. Leverages best practices and ensures integrated execution and effective engagement, administrative oversight, and direction and allocation of Operations resources to enhance the University strategic goals and objectives as outlined in the institutional strategic plan.

      The AVP will develop an operational model and plan that fosters an integrative approach amongst the Operations units and ensures alignment with the university’s strategic goals and objectives. The AVP supports developing a comprehensive approach to operational efficiency for the division. AVP will leverage effective utilization and development of human, fiscal, and technological resources in the delivery of operational excellence.

      The AVP coordinates and facilitates division-wide assessment and institutional effectiveness processes in support of operational efficiency and continuous improvement. The AVP will contribute to the development of Operations metrics, collect and analyze data, monitor key performance indicators, and support the implementation of systematic process improvements.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Cultivates a deep understanding of the University's operational needs and aligns Operations resources to develop business solutions.
      • Oversees the Operations project portfolio generated within the Office of the Chief Operating Officer.
      • Coordinates internal resources, third parties/vendors, and all other stakeholders for the execution and management of contracts.
      • Leads the assessment of units within Operations and the division. Gathers and analyzes departmental data to meet immediate and long-range division objectives, assists units in their development of annual work plan objectives, and monitors unit achievement of service-level provision.
      • Supports the development and maintenance Operations standard operating policies and procedures manual.
      • Institutes a program supporting the identification, execution, and monitoring of cross-functional training and collaboration within the division and university-wide.
      • Develops a central repository of key Operations documentation and knowledge bases.
      • Gathers cross-functional teams to exercise collaboration in addressing inter-divisional issues.
      • Supports the orientation of new Operations managers to division expectations, best practices, and requisite training.
      • Assist Chief Operating Officer with division budget formulation.
      • Performs other related duties as assigned.


      Minimum Job Requirements

      • Master’s in business administration, organizational management, policy, or a closely related field, required.
      • Ten (10) years’ experience in higher education.
      • Five (5) years of demonstrated successful experience in progressive senior administrative roles and in a leadership position in higher education.

      Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

      Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

      Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

      Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
