Job Fuction:

Operation Technology (OT) Operations
Engineers within Operating Technology (OT) Operations at Hydro One are engaged in a variety of challenging and exciting roles and responsibilities. OT is the intersection between traditional IT and Control System Engineering. OT Operations at Hydro One is responsible for software systems and related infrastructure that control Ontario’s electric power system. Engineers are charged with a variety of responsibilities that include automating existing processes, troubleshooting software process failures, specifying requirements for new software systems, supporting system upgrades, etc. A successful candidate would be an individual comfortable with challenging the status quo and driving innovation and new technology in the department.

General Accountabilities:

• Proactive, prompt and effective technical support of applications, databases and networks used to operate the Ontario power system, including after-hours on-call support.

• Coordinate, assess, analyze, specify, design, improve, fix, deploy, install, integrate, upgrade, configure, validate, test, and document resilient, clustered, cross-site, highly-availability applications and databases.

• Ensure that system/application/database designs comply with security policies relating to access control, data protection, information technology/processes/procedures, system monitoring and security event detection, resiliency planning, and incident response/recovery.

• Champion Agile, DevOps, and GitOps best practices.

• Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria :

Education:

• Requires 4-year university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.

• A self motivated individual with an aptitude to learn.

• Interest in driving change and taking on new challenges.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Leadership skills gained through extracurricular activities or other experience in a dynamic team environment.

Experience :

• Proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, Python, GitLab, CI/CD, DevOps, SQL, Ansible, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, and automated testing is an asset.

• Demonstrated record of self-motivated behavior and perseverance to accomplish objectives in spite of obstacles.

• Demonstrated ability to coordinate work, and work in a team environment.

• Professional level of oral and written communication skills.
