      Serves as an Assistant Legal Counsel for the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and provides legal counsel and advice to the Superintendent of Public Instruction on policy development and implementation on legal functions related to education:

      • Assists with the development of administrative rules;
      • Assists in managing and responding to public records requests submitted to ODE or the State Board;
      • Participates in Chapter 119 hearing processes (e.g., land transfer cases, permanent exclusion cases, and payment in lieu of cases);
      • Under supervision of Chief Legal Counsel and Deputy Chief Legal Counsel, provides assistance and advice to department on legal matters.

      Researches and drafts legal opinions, orders, memoranda, and other legal documents:

      • Researches questions for agency personnel;
      • Prepares responses and/or reports/decisions as required;
      • Performs research as may be required to implement applicable laws;
      • Analyzes, monitors, and drafts legislation pertaining to education and ODE;
      • Provides recommendations to agency administrators related to policy.

      Performs other related duties as assigned:

      • Provides legal assistance and guidance to assigned centers and offices.

      Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; 12 mos. exp. as licensed attorney; 6 mos. exp. in employee training & development.
