What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Verify insurance coverage using system tools and payer portals
- Update billing system with changes after insurance coverage verification
- Confirm provider participation status with patient insurance plans
- Initiate authorization requests and submit clinical documentation as needed
- Communicate with surgical coordinators regarding authorization status or denials
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High school graduate or GED certificate
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a physician's billing or third-party payer environment
- Ability to understand managed care eligibility and insurance billing requirements
- Strong customer service orientation and effective communication skills
- Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Certified Professional Coder certificate (CPC)
- Experience with Epic or other electronic billing systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis, and procedure coding
- Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting
