    Official Position Description:

    Performs preventative maintenance & service (e.g., tunes gas &/or diesel engines; inspects vehicles/equipment for damage; adjusts parts; changes fluids; operates electronic system scope) on cars, trucks, mowers, lawn mowers, stake body trucks, tractors, generators, chain saws, weed eaters, pumps, tar distributors & other motorized equipment as assigned by supervisor. Test drives state vehicle/equipment (e.g., cars, trucks, mowers, lawn mowers, stake body trucks, tractors, generators, chain saws, weed eaters, pumps, tar distributors & other motorized equipment) to ensure proper operation after completion of repairs.
    
    Rebuilds, replaces &/or repairs major parts on cars, trucks, & other equipment (e.g., exhaust system, carburetors, electrical systems, water or fuel pumps, batteries, brake systems, clutches, & alternators).
    
    Performs minor repairs or other related mechanical work (e.g., adjusts valves; changes & repairs all types of tires; cleans or replaces diesel injectors; repairs or replaces hydraulic pumps or systems; replaces shocks; installs snowplow blades; performs minor body repair work).
    
    Maintains Equipment Management System (EMS) records on parts used & work performed on equipment; orders &/or picks up parts. Service & repairs of highway equipment in the field; uses welding equipment to straighten & fabricate metal.
    
    Snow removal when necessary & other related duties as required (e.g., keeps garage area, equipment & tools clean & orderly; mows grass; operates snowplow, tow truck or other equipment; repairs mowers & sharpens blades; pumps gasoline & diesel fuel & maintain daily records of same; attends training school). Performs other related maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications - External

    24 mos. exp. in automotive repair & maintenance of variety of vehicles or equipment. The final applicant accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment, per Section 3719.01 & 3719.41 of Ohio revised code. Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.
    
    -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

  ALL ANSWERS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION PROVIDED ON YOUR CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATION.

  Work hours are variable: 7:00AM - 3:30PM (Hours may vary based on operational need.)

  -Valid Class A CDL without air brake restriction, with tanker endorsement must be obtained during probationary period & maintained thereafter. -This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards.

  -All bargaining unit and exempt new hires to ODOT must serve a one (1) year probationary period. -If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with the contract.

  UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: May be exposed to dirt, loud noise, grease, dust, gas fumes & other unpleasant conditions; may work outside exposed to unpleasant weather conditions; may be on call 24 hrs./day, 7 days/week.
