      ABOUT THE POSITION

      Aviation Environmental Planner | Raleigh, NC

      Hybrid Work Opportunities Available in the Mid-Atlantic Region

      VHB is seeking an experienced Aviation Environmental Planner to join our growing team in Raleigh, North Carolina. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated professional with 5–8+ years of experience in environmental and aviation planning to work on impactful airport projects across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions.

      You’ll support a variety of aviation-related environmental projects while gaining exposure to project management and client development efforts. This is an ideal opportunity for someone ready to grow into a senior-level role while working alongside industry experts in a collaborative, hybrid work environment.

      Responsibilities

      • Contribute to the preparation of airport environmental and planning documents, including:
        • NEPA environmental filings (EAs, EISs, CATEX)
        • Airport master plans and airport layout plans (ALPs)
        • Resiliency and sustainability studies
        • Airport electrification and climate-related analyses
      • Conduct technical assessments of environmental impacts (e.g., noise, air quality, stormwater, hazardous materials)
      • Assist with research, data analysis, and report development for environmental studies
      • Support Project Managers with project coordination, scope, and schedule management
      • Interact with FAA and state/local regulatory agencies during project delivery
      • Contribute to business development by supporting proposal preparation and building client relationships
      • Collaborate across disciplines within VHB (e.g., planning, engineering, environmental sciences)
      • May mentor junior staff and contribute to project reviews and quality assurance
      • Stay informed on emerging aviation technologies, including Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL)

      Skills & Knowledge

      • Strong understanding of NEPA processes and aviation-related environmental documentation
      • Experience with FAA processes, guidelines, and coordination
      • Familiarity with airport planning and design concepts
      • Ability to manage tasks independently and as part of a team
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and environmental planning software (e.g., GIS, Adobe Creative Suite)
      • Experience working with diverse clients, including public agencies and airport authorities
      • Interest in growing technical skills while developing leadership experience

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering, Aviation Management, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
      • 5–8+ years of professional experience in aviation planning, environmental consulting, or related discipline
      • Experience preparing environmental documentation under NEPA for airport projects
      • Experience with FAA coordination preferred
      • Professional certifications (e.g., AICP, PMP, ENV SP) a plus
