  Backend Engineer, Clover

  What does a Backend Engineer do at Clover?

  We're Clover, the largest cloud-based integrated commerce operating system for small and medium businesses. You've probably seen us in your favorite restaurants and shops; we support over 700k+ merchants worldwide. Clover enables merchants to accept payments, run their business and sell more.   In this role, we're looking for an experienced backend software engineer to help improve/expand our platform and product. You will accomplish this by maintaining and adding new features, investing/reproducing/resolving bugs, creating helpful documentation, and re-architecting our system to achieve better scalability and availability.

  Partner with the Infrastructure, Product and Design teams, you will be pragmatic in balancing priorities and enjoy working in an iterative model where specifications are constantly changing.

  What you will do:

  • Design and implement REST APIs for mobile and web clients including our web dashboard, 3rd party apps, and payment devices.
  • Identify technical requirements in product meetings and assist the business team with realistic project planning and feature development; translate product requirements into functional, maintainable, extensible software that is in-line with company objectives.
  • Own your features from development through deployment and production monitoring.
  • Participate in design/code reviews.
  • Partner with the Infrastructure Team to design data models to support large-scale highly available services.
  • Work with QA to develop test plans/strategies.
  • Participate in a regular on call rotation.

  What you will need:

  • Experience developing robust web applications with expertise in designing and managing scalable APIs
  • 8+ years of experience with Java, including hands-on coding and debugging
  • Proficiency with SQL or NoSQL databases, including database design, optimization, and performance tuning
  • Familiarity with modern web development frameworks and technologies.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapting to changing requirements.
  • Analytical skills with experience to make data-driven decisions.

  What would be great to have:

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience with MongoDB, ArgoCD, Kubernetes or Helm Charts.
  • Knowledgeable with integrating AI Tools to bring in efficiency and improve productivity of teams.

  Important info about this role:

  • We’re better together. This role is fully on-site, 5 days a week.
  • This is a full-time, direct-hire position, and no contract options for unsolicited agency submissions will be considered.

  Salary Range

  $108,900.00 - $186,800.00

  These pay ranges apply to employees in New Jersey, New York and California. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.
