- Ensure high levels of availability, performance and backup integrity by monitoring, testing, and troubleshooting
- Develop plans, schedules, and requirements for deployment of systems
- Collaborate with units to create and test disaster recovery plans and ensure Ransomeware resilience
- Practice high-level security standards to ensure data is protected in accordance with university policies
- Create and maintain system documentation of departmental processes, procedures, plans, and configurations
- Create, modify, and publish end-user documentation
- Plan and executing upgrades to the environment outside normal work hours (typically 5-7 AM weekdays - about once a month)
- Communicate with customers to coordinate upgrade times, migrations into the services, and to provide updates about changes
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, communicate and resolve services issues and outages

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State’s Core Infrastructure Virtualization and Storage team is looking for a collaborative, motivated, and engaged individual to join our team! The Backup and Storage Administrator will configure, maintain, and otherwise ensure the proper operation of Penn State IT’s enterprise backup environment and centralized storage platforms. This position performs capacity planning for future growth and provides recommendations to leadership on the direction of the service. The selected candidate will work on a variety of projects, both independently and in teams. Additionally, the successful candidate will be able to present to Penn State customers about our services - providing technical details, answering questions from the community, and advocating for its usage in stakeholder meetings. Other desirable skills and knowledge for the position include monitoring tools like Grafana and Nagios, source control software - primarily Git, VMware ESXi and Morpheus.

About Us
The Core Infrastructure group in Penn State IT is a collection of highly skilled experts whose professional passions are solving technical problems and finding solutions to customers’ needs. Among other important duties, our organization designs, administers, and maintains central firewalls, DDI infrastructure, operating systems, storage, virtualization infrastructure, monitoring platforms, VPN services, and network automation systems, as well as providing consulting and customer engagement services for these products. TYPICAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position will require successful completion of standard background checks.
The location of this position can be fully in-person at the University Park campus, fully remote, or a hybrid mix of in person and remote work (schedule based in the Eastern Time Zone). Candidates must be able to work in the US without sponsorship.
