- Carry out directions of the Judge and Lead Bailiff related to the smooth and efficient functioning of the courtrooms.
- Operate and host remote hearings.
- Coordinate with marshals for transport and court supervision of in-custody defendants.
- Independently prepare and process all documents required for jail commitments and releases.
- Monitor defendant's case for compliance with these commitments.
- Prepare, process, and explain documents for defendants regarding their sentence.
- Maintain custody and care of jurors.
- Maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive Information.
- Remain calm and professional throughout stressful court proceedings.
- Keep current on constantly changing court technology, policies, and procedures.
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently and unsupervised.
- 1+ year of in-person customer service experience involving effective communication, exercising sound judgment, utilizing a computer, and working Independently In a high-pressure environment.
- Able to work at both the Seattle Justice Center and the King County Jail.
- At least 21 years old at the time of hire.
- BA In criminal Justice, law, or related field, OR combination of education and experience.
- Providing In-person customer service.
- Processing confidential Information.
- Working with agitated people, and those with mental health Issues.
- Ending institutional and systemic racism.
- Upholding strict standards of ethical behavior.
- Providing excellent Public service.
- Proficiently use Microsoft Office, Webex, Adobe Sign, Microsoft Teams.

The Seattle Municipal Court (SMC) Clerk's Office has an exciting opportunity for a permanent Bailiff position.
Bailiffs play a critical role in the courtroom and act as a liaison between the Judge, attorneys, defendants, jurors, outside agencies and other areas of the court. They review dispositional documents with defendants, coordinate with the marshals to transport of In-custody defendants and independently prepare and process documents required for Jail commitments and releases.

Work Environment:
This ls a full-time position, working 40-hours per week. Work Is performed in-person. The person in this role must be able to work Monday through Friday and maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
Pay:
This position is part of the Step Compensation program. The full salary range for this position is $33.53 - $37.64 per hour. To ensure internal equity, the expected starting salary is $33.53 which is Step 1 of the 5 Step Salary Range.
For candidates internal to the City, salary step placement will be based on Personnel Rules or as outlined in the respective candidate’s Collective Bargaining Agreement relating to promotions.
