      The Team
      At the Employment Standards Branch, Employer Standards Officers play a pivotal role in ensuring that all employees under provincial jurisdiction, including temporary foreign workers, receive at least basic standards of compensation and conditions of employment and are treated fairly at work. The team is a diverse group of senior and junior officers, supporting career growth towards roles like Industrial Relations Officer and Senior Industrial Relations Officer.       The Role
      Enjoying the flexibility of a hybrid working model, you will educate employers and employees about their rights and responsibilities under the Employment Standards Act and the Temporary Foreign Worker Protection Act. In this role, you will investigate complaints made by employees against their employers if they feel the minimum standards have not been met. Your work will involve speaking to the parties to gather information about the issues and allegations, reviewing the facts and applying the legislation. Employing superior resolution/facilitation skills, your focus will be on assisting the parties to resolves disputes, through discussions directly between the two parties and/or through education and investigation.       Qualifications:
      Education and Experience

      • University degree; and minimum of (6) six months of related experience; OR,
      • Two-year post-secondary diploma/certificate and (2) two years of related experience; OR,
      • An equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.

      Related experience must include the following:

      • Resolving conflict and effectively dealing with emotionally charged individuals.
      • Interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, contracts and/or policies.
      • Experience gathering and analyzing information and documenting evidence/information obtained.
      • Experience preparing business correspondence.


      Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

      • Investigative experience. Investigative experience is defined as and must include: information gathering, interviewing, and applying facts to criteria set out in Acts, Regulations and/or policies.
      • Experience resolving complaints for a statutory decision maker in an administrative law context.

      • Experience in the field of conflict resolution/facilitation or mediation.

      • Experience conveying information to employees and/or employers on matters related to the Employment Standards Act and Regulation.

      • Additional years of experience in any of the above experience requirements and/or preferences.

      About this Position:
      Amendment (August 22): The starting salary for this position may be in the $65,300.21 - $69,709.94 range annually and will be determined by the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience.
      This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above.
      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to four (4) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
      An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
      A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
      Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
      This position is excluded from union membership.
