      The Workplace Health and Safety Branch (WHS) provides province-wide services for health planning and promotion, occupational safety, occupational health and rehabilitation, and disability plan administration within the BC Public Service. Within WHS, the Workplace Health Services team delivers specialized services to support a healthy and safe workforce; to assist ill and injured employees’ return to work in a timely, safe, and sustainable manner; to improve accountability for and management of health-related absences in the public service; and to manage disability costs and improve case outcomes.

      The Corporate Advisor provides specialized expert advice and guidance to multiple employer groups including BC Public Service ministry, and plan participating agency, board and commission supervisors and managers on matters relating to disability case management; interpretation, application and administration of collective agreements; Long Term Disability (LTD) and WorkSafe BC (WSBC) claims management, claims review committee appeal process, and WSBC appeal related matters. This position reconciles complex benefit plan, corporate strategy as well as stakeholder and client interests. The position also uses influence and authority to create successful case outcomes and resolve claims consistent with core policy and accountabilities.

      Job Requirements:

      • Degree in Disability Management, Human Resources, or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of human resource/disability benefits management experience and must include a minimum of two (2) years in dedicated disability claims/case management*; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
        • *Dedicated Disability claims/case management includes the daily application of best practices in disability case management, early intervention and return to work planning from a behavioural approach, not a clinical or medical approach. Experience in the coordination of expert resources to support case resolution and in negotiating solutions to complex problems.


      Preference may be given to applicants with

      • Formal education and/or training in disability case management, worker’s compensation, law, or policy.
      • Experience with WSBC and LTD policy and guidelines, human rights legislation, and applicable legislation and policy.
      • Experience in WSBC claims representation and advocacy; or experience in WSBC claims adjudication or WSBC claims management.


      Proviso

      • Some travel may be required to attend training and/or participate on committees/special projects.

      About this Position:

      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
