      Job summary

      We are looking to recruit a band 5 DEXA Technician in West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals Trust, to support our DEXA service at St Albans City Hospital.

      Outside of work you'll also benefit from being on good transport links with London (underground), being a short walk into Watford shopping centre & St Albans City centre for all your shopping and socialising needs.

      Watford Football club are also our friendly neighbours who have been very supportive to us throughout the pandemic.

      Main duties of the job

      The duties and responsibilities of the post holder include:

      • Being an effective member of the DEXA team, providing a high standard of scanning service to technicians, radiologists and patients.
      • Mentoring junior staff and students.
      • Obtain optimum information from each investigation to facilitate accurate diagnosis
      • Being actively involved in the continuing development of the DEXA service
      • Completing and record keeping of QA testing.
      • Following IRMER17 regulations whilst undertaking radiology examinations to a high standard.

      This post is ideal for existing band 5 Radiographers and/or technicians looking to broaden their radiographic experience and be part of an established, successful, and popular department.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      • To behave always in a professional manner, be smart in appearance and always uphold the reputation of the department

      • To Ensure that the IR(ME) Regulations 2000 are understood and observed by the post holder and anyone they are responsible for, including other staff, patients and members of the public and to be aware of any updating of these regulations
      • To be responsible at all times for patients welfare and comfort
      • To assist in the setting-up and maintenance of quality assurance programmes and to participate in audit projects as directed
      • To assist, where required, in the training of staff in the use of equipment in the DEXA Department
      • To keep up-to-date with professional developments in Radiology and to attend seminars and courses where required
      • To assist in the supervision of junior staff and students and to provide help and advice if required
      • To undertake imaging examinations within the DEXA department to the standard required by the Department of Radiology
      • To carry out monitoring procedures on equipment, reporting any faults to the Superintendent Radiographers/Service Managers
      • To respond to and investigate any reports of malfunction of the apparatus, accessories, office equipment or computer system
      • To maintain computer records in compliance with the Data Protection Act
      • To check and maintain stock levels and to ensure work areas and equipment are kept clean and tidy and in good safe working order.
      • Appropriately assess and interview patients prior to scan, giving adequate explanation of scan procedure and ensuring correct preparation
      • Liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a high level of service is available to the patient and also liaise closely with clerical staff
      • Utilise all equipment associated with the Bone Density Unit in a safe and appropriate manner to maximise effect.
