Job Description

- Prepare and administer immunisations/vaccinations safely and competently in accordance with professional accountability local/national standards and guidelines
- Respond to clinical emergencies (anaphylaxis) initiating basic life support to ensure emergency procedures are executed and reported in accordance with national and local policy
- Take Lead role nurse responsibility for a cluster of allocated schools
- Plan and co-ordinate school based / clinic immunisation sessions and home visits
- Assess children and young people to ensure their inclusion for immunisation/vaccination programmes meets the required criteria for administration under a Patient Group Directive (PGD)
- Ensure the Cold Chain is managed in in accordance with maintaining the cold chain of medicines policy and audit/records are maintained
- Compliance with the medicines management standards throughout the process including robust awareness of immunisation history and contraindications to vaccination
- Assess and engage professional judgement to ensure parent / carer / young persons consent is informed in accordance with national and local policy/guidelines
- Assess and signpost children and young people to the appropriate named Health Together practitioner where additional advice and support is indicated for identified health needs
- Refer any Safeguarding issues identified to school Safeguarding team, referring to Social care as appropriate
- Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills

- Demonstrates initiative and potential ability to work without direct supervision, problem solve and prioritise own work
- Demonstrates potential to develop planning and organisational skills
- Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility dependent upon work priorities

- To be able to demonstrate understanding of current developments in the NHS and their implications for nursing and quality care for clients/service users
- Ability to practice independently, ability to take responsibility and show evidence of leadership skills
- Six months post registration
- Demonstrates a strong interest in providing patient centre nursing care and patient education
- Physically capable for performing the role and responsibilities expect of the post holder, ie manual handling of clients/service users
- Registered Nurse Level 1
- Evidence of continuing professional development within the last 12 months
- Hold/be working towards an NMC approved mentoring qualification or have a planned start date for this
- Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well as a team member

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the School Aged Immunisation service, for an experienced Registered Nurse with up to date immunisation experience.
You will work as part of a team and be responsible for delivering the School Aged Immunisation Programme to your allocated schools (Primary, Secondary and Independent), in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Applicants should be well organised with excellent communication skills and good IT skills. This is a busy, often changing environment, as the service seeks alternative methods of immunisation delivery to reduce health inequalities, increase uptake and ensure sustainability.
This position is an annualised hours contract based on a nominal 15 hours per week.
We are currently based at Bridge Park Plaza, Thurmaston, on the edge of Watermead Country Park. We will be moving to County Hall, Glenfield Hospital site from End of Spring 2024. Free car parking is available at both sites.
