- Educated to GCSE level including qualifications in English and Maths
- Training completed in ICD10/OPCS4 coding to National Coding standard
- GCSE or equivalent in Human Biology
- ECDL or computer proficiency certificate
- Proven experience as a trained clinical coder working in an NHS trust
- Experience of delivering in-house training to trainee clinical coders
- Previous experience of using Medicode encoder
- High level of knowledge of medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology terms

- Planning and organisational skills to ensure departmental targets are fully met

Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Accredited Clinical Coders who is self-motivated and competent in accurately coding multiple complex specialties. As well as understanding the need for high quality coded data to support healthcare planning, reimbursement, management of services, statistical analysis, and research.The trust is looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills. The role will require you to work to strict deadlines, whilst still paying attention to detail and always maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Main duties of the job
The Qualified Clinical Coding Officer is responsible for meeting essential trust requirements for statutory information and financial flows through abstracting and analysing complex and sensitive clinical information from a variety of source documentation and translating this into coded form in line with National Clinical Coding Standards using ICD10 and OPCS4 Classifications.
Clinical coding targets will be set in line with completeness, timeliness and accuracy of coding. Other key responsibilities include assisting with clinical coding and workflow audits, representing the clinical coding department at multidisciplinary meetings and providing advice and guidance to more junior members of the coding department in coding rules; identifying any associated training needs.
