      Job summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our OT team within the Access to Communication and Technology(ACT) Service.

      The post-holder will work within three clinical caseloads relating to Electronic Assistive Technology (EAT): people with severe physical disabilities who may need Environmental Control (EC) or computer access and people with communication and language difficulties who may need Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC)

      The post holder will:

      • Have significant experience post qualification, with relative experience working with:

      - Children

      - People with Neurology Conditions

      - People with Learning Disability

      • Be able to work independently and travel widely within the Midlands region
      • You would be expected to develop the knowledge, experience and skills in assistive technology required through a period of supported experience and training in the role. We have a good supervision structure in place to support this.

      Main duties of the job

      The post holder will:

      • Use occupational therapy skills alongside Speech Therapy (SLT) and Clinical Science (CS) staff within the interdisciplinary team assessing people referred to the service with AAC needs, in accordance with the ACT AAC clinical competencies. This will involve developing a deeper understanding of the scope of both SLT and CS, in order to apply this knowledge to provide comprehensive, holistic assessments.
      • Work as an autonomous practitioner, in accordance with the ACT clinical competencies, carrying a caseload of people referred to the service for assessment of EC, computer access and communication needs.
      • Participate in service improvement initiatives and projects within ACT and the trust and nationally for AAC and EC. This may include specific projects for individual patients, research, audit, as well as procedure development.

      To establish effective working relation with the following:

      • ACT Team - Clinical, Technical, Stock and Admin staff
      • Patients, their carers and families
      • Assistive technology providers
      • Other departments
      • External organisations such as Higher Education providers, professional bodies and other stakeholders
