Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our rotational scheme between inpatient Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) and Musculoskeletal (MSK) outpatients at Good Hope Hospital. This role is a rotational post between MSK and T&O, where the rotations will be for a duration of 6 months.
The successful candidate will spend 6 months working in the T&O team. The team provide acute inpatient therapy for a variable caseload including (but not limited to) elective primary TKR/THR, complex revision arthroplasty, acute trauma including spinal fracture management, NOF rehab, and older people's rehabilitation.
There will be an expectation to contribute to the extended day service which covers day surgery and the ambulatory trauma service. This runs until 8pm daily. There is also a requirement respiratory on-call rota.
The candidate will then rotate to MSK outpatients for 6 months and will continue to rotate between these teams on a 6 monthly basis.
There will be opportunities for learning and development in both clinical areas, led by a fantastic team of highly specialist physiotherapists.
We welcome Band 5 physiotherapists looking for progression to a Band 6 post, or an existing Band 6 with a keen interest in MSK and T&O wishing to move into these specialist areas.
Main duties of the job
*To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to MSK out-patients and inpatient Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) within University Hospitals Birmingham at Good Hope Hospital, incorporating extended hours over 6/7 day working patterns
*To hold responsibility for own outpatient MSK case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.
*To hold responsibility for own inpatient T&O caseload, providing physiotherapeutic assessment, management, and treatment of a range of orthopaedic patients. This will include injuries from trauma, elective surgery, and day case surgery, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
*To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.
*To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students.
*To assist with supervision, education and co-ordination of generic therapy assistants, and junior therapy staff
*Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice.
