- To provide autonomous diabetes care for patients with Diabetes using advanced clinical skills and knowledge of the speciality
- To lead and autonomously manage a caseload of patients with Diabetes, who have multiple and complex needs including complex Type 1 and 2 Diabetes, ante-natal, renal, transition and initiation of CGM/pump therapy within the inpatient and outpatient Diabetes service.
- To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within Diabetes.
- To lead and innovate diabetes related specialist practice, both within the Trust and through local networks.
- To develop diabetes guidelines, protocols and policies for the Trust
- To develop all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providing support, advice, formal and informal education.
- To actively contribute to and participate in the delivery of Trust-wide multi disciplinary mandatory training and teaching.
- To provide specialist advice to inpatient diabetes service by receiving direct referrals from members of other multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
- Registered nurse
- Relevant 1st degree to specialist Diabetes care
- Educated to or willing to work to Masters level education
- Non-medical prescriber
- Advanced clinical assessment skills
- Recognised teaching or mentorship qualification
- DAFNE (Dose adjustment for normal eating or equilevent
- Recent extensive experience in specialist diabetes care at CNS level.
- Experience in teaching multidisciplinary staff.
- Able to demonstrate contribution to clinical protocols
- Experience of supervising other healthcare professionals
- Understanding of the role, competencies of the post, being aware of own boundaries and other members of health care team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrates knowledge in strategic and national issues pertinent to nursing and diabetes care.
- Ability to work autonomously.

Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work with a dynamic forward thinking, diabetesteam at The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking to recruit 3 Band 7 Diabetes Nurse Specialists.
Are you looking for a change? Are you enthusiastic about enhancing the quality ofdiabetes care? If so, this position will provide you with the chance to collaborate with adiabetes multidisciplinary team that is both welcoming and enthusiastic.
You will acquire experience in a clinical setting by managing your own caseload ofpatients, delivering structured education sessions to staff and patients whilstenhancing your own skills with the management of patients with complex Type 2diabetes, Type 1 and diabetes technology.
The applicant will be expected to demonstrate adaptability in their ability to provideassistance to both inpatient and outpatient services. The applicant will be expected topossess exceptional IT skills.
The recruitment is for 2 DSN based at The Royal Free Hospital and 1 at Barnet Hospital.The nursing team is managed across the RFL sites which does require DSNs to providesupport to all our services at Royal Free, Barnet, Chase Farm, and Edgware Hospitals.
