      Job summary

Are you ready to make a significant impact in the field of community dentistry? Join our dynamic team at the Dorset and Somerset Primary Care Dental Service, where we are dedicated to providing exceptional patient care under the leadership of a Consultant in Special Care Dentistry.

Get in touch to arrange an informal visit to one of our clinics, at a date/time to suit your working hours. The primary focus of this role is to enhance our clinical leadership framework, offering you an exciting opportunity to make a substantial contribution to our service -- so come and speak to us, meet some of the team, talk us through your skills and experience and discuss what the next step in your community dentistry career could look like with us.

This position is primarily clinical, with some management and leadership responsibilities. By leveraging your specialist clinical skills and knowledge, you will work alongside senior colleagues and the wider dental team to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality care within our community dental service.

      Main duties of the job

As a member of our experienced team, you will support and mentor those new to, or moving their way through their dentistry careers. We offer general anaesthesia services at Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil District Hospital in Somerset, and Dorset County Hospital in Dorset, along with inhalation and intravenous sedation in most of our clinics. Our team actively participates in the Paediatric and Special Care Managed Clinical Networks for the South West and collaborates with local dental committees and other stakeholders.

In this role, you will be instrumental in expanding our framework of clinical supervision. We have a strong track record of training Specialist Trainee Registrars, and many of our dental nurses hold additional qualifications in conscious sedation and dental radiography. We are proud to deliver SAAD accredited inhalation sedation training to our teams. Our team includes skilled dental therapists, and we are committed to developing and supporting more therapists in the future.

Based in one of our welcoming Dorset clinics, with occasional travel to other locations, you'll enjoy a supportive and specialised environment. This is your chance to make a meaningful impact, continue to develop professionally, and be part of a team that values your dedication and compassion.

  • About the company

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
