03/20/2024 Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, in addition to the expectations outlined for teachers, but are not limited to:
Coordinates the instrumental music program grades 6-12
Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band
Supports band booster club activities
Attends scheduled practices during the off season
Organizes and conducts tryouts for the band; informs administration and participants of final selections
Cooperates with the school administration in providing music programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and as appropriate, civic functions that enhance the students’ performing experience
Oversees scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsals and concerts in cooperation with the building principal
Prepares students and required documents for District and State auditions and competitions. Makes all arrangements
Maintains an accurate inventory of school-owned instruments
Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required
Orders all supplies and materials necessary for band-related activities in accordance with established district procedures and budget allocations
Develops and implements plans for the instrumental music program and show written evidence of preparation as required
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
Supports the Hattiesburg Public School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan
Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district policies and applicable procedures and protocols as established by LCSD, and Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct
Education Level: Bachelor’s degree or higher
Certification: Hold an appropriate Mississippi Teaching Credential or valid emergency
certification issued by the state of Mississippi Educational Board, LicensureOther Requirements: Required references and background check. Woodwind Specialist with emphasis in Double Reed/Flute Pedagogy. Responsibilities include Beginner Band classes, assisting with ensemble rehearsals at the High School and Middle School and Sectionals.

Job Purpose:
A teacher in the Lamar County School District is expected to help students learn required subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.
