      Job Description

      *Candidates must attend one of the two mandatory information session to be eligible to apply to this position.

      Course Duration: Total: 135 hours (90 hours theory, 45 hours clinical)

      Mission and Purpose:

      TTI aims to prepare individuals for careers in healthcare, focusing on CNA roles. The program also offers educational pathways into Patient Care Technician and nursing roles.

      Partnering with Lurie Children's Hospital:

      In partnership with TTI, through the Good Jobs Initiative, Lurie Children's Hospital is offering a fully funded opportunity for both Lurie’s staff and community members to earn a Basic Nursing Assistant Certification, receive professional development/support, and have an opportunity to interview for a Certified Nursing Assistant role at Lurie Children's Hospital.

      Program Overview:

      This 16 week, part-time, Illinois Department of Public Health approved certificate program for Basic Nursing Assistant (BNA) prepares students to work in the health care industry as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

      Students will be introduced to the discipline of nursing and the basic approaches to patient care. The role of the CNA as an assistant to the registered nurse and other members of the health care team is studied and practiced in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting.

      The Basic Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program at TTI equips students with the essential skills for assisting nurses in various health care environments. The program is structured to offer comprehensive training in nursing theory, practical lab work, and clinical experience, essential for the role of a CNA. The program aims to prepare students for Illinois Certification as a CNA.

      Start Dates:

      August 24th-January 4th

      August 26th-December 18th

      August 29th – December 14th

      Course Content:

      • Students will learn about basic anatomy, testing procedures, common ailments, personal care, patient mobility, emotional needs of patients, and legal/ethical issues in nursing. The course also prepares students for the state certification exam. Success in this program requires timely completion of work, regular class attendance, and active participation.
      • Students will gain skills in personal hygiene assistance, mobility support, nutritional and elimination needs, comfort activities, assessment and care planning, maintaining safety and environmental cleanliness, and other related tasks.

      Basic Program Requirements:

      • High school diploma or GED.
      • Must possess a valid state ID.
      • Clearance of a national criminal background check.
      • Compliance with vaccination and health requirements as per CDC guidelines.
      • Completion of a general physical exam, TB skin test, and other health screenings.
      • Physician or nurse practitioner evaluation.
      • Physical capability to lift 50 pounds and endure prolonged standing/walking

      TTI Admission Requirements:

      • Complete program interview and other requirements.
      • Attend all training and clinical course sessions.
      • Participate in all professional development sessions.
      • Agree to program communication.
      • Complete pre/post program evaluation surveys & required documentation.

      Additional Requirements:

      • Located in the Chicagoland area & plan to remain in Chicagoland area.
      • Want to pursue a job as a CNA at Lurie Children’s Hospital.
      • Able to pass pre-employment health screen & comply with flu vaccine mandate if hired.
      • Sit for a pass IL CNA Certification exam upon program completion.
      • Ability to work scheduled shifts and weekend/holiday requirements.

      Education

      High School Diploma/GED (Required)

      (BLS) - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
