      The Neil Jones Food Company is looking for a seasonal Batcher 1 at our Tomatek facility in Firebaugh, CA. The Neil Jones Food Company processes superior quality, fresh packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. With headquarters in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 35 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Tomatek in Firebaugh, CA.

      Summary: Responsible for formulating products according to established batch procedures. Perform efficiently and effectively for product changeovers in a food safe environment. Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) policies. Documentation is required and maintained for formulation of products, chlorine rinses, and lost production time. Responsible for working within a team philosophy and assisting one fellow co-worker when called upon or opportunity presents itself. This is a seasonal, non-exempt, union position, supporting our fresh pack season, typically July – October.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Inspect all safety features on machinery and report any safety hazards to Pouch Supervisor. Hazards may include electrical, high air pressure, steam, hot product and/or water, and faulty machinery due to mechanical issues.
      • Follow strict batching procedures and understand the logic behind the sequence.
      • Troubleshoot batches that are out of specification and make the necessary corrections.
      • Ensure that product conforms to customer specifications.
      • Record and report all product deviations to batcher lead.

      Requirements:

      • Ability to use a computer to operate the equipment that formulates the product.
      • Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure and manuals.
      • Ability to read and write in English; able to write routine reports and document routine forms and logs.
      • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for shift in a hot and humid environment.
      • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, work extended hours, weekends, and any shift assigned during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October.

      Compensation:

      The hourly union wage is $16.53.
