- Proven experience in lithium-ion battery research, development, or failure/ root cause analysis
- Hands-on experience in lithium-ion battery teardown process and characterization of battery components by diffraction, microscopy, and spectroscopy tools
- Deep know-how in variety of electrochemical techniques (CV, EIS, GITT, PITT) for battery diagnostics
- Experience in battery material modeling for aging prediction
- Expertise in multiple characterization techniques including XRD, SEM/EDS, FIB including sample preparation methods
- Deep understanding in battery materials, interfaces, electrolytes, and electrochemistry to drive failure analysis of Li ion batteries
- Familiar with statistical analysis of failure rates and times (risk analysis)
- Strong verbal and written communication, teamwork, and project management skills
- Attention to details, ability to work well individually and in team settings
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $132,300.00 and $241,500.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

By collaborating with other product development groups across Apple, you’ll push the industry boundaries of what batteries can do and improve the product experience for our customers across the world. We are looking for you to perform root cause analysis for energy storage devices such as lithium-ion batteries to support battery development. You will be designing and implementing materials and electrochemical characterization experiments to study factors that influence the degradation of battery components under different testing conditions. You will also implement a systematic investigation approach for identifying the root causes of failures and develop mitigation paths for corrective actions.Key QualificationsDescription• Organize and carry out characterization and battery failure analysis work to unravel causation and mechanisms and facilitate corrective actions and mitigation. • Acquire and interpret analytical and cell test data using materials characterization and electrochemical techniques to supplement FA activity. • Perform tear downs and prepare reports. • Prepare and maintain procedures, validate methods and equipment, develop, and implement FA protocols and failure replication testing. • Determine the best techniques and most effective paths to attain the desired information to uncover failure modes. • Train, guide and define tasks for technicians to facilitate work at high standards.Education & ExperienceBS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience MS or higher degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or related field preferredAdditional RequirementsPay & BenefitsAbout the company
