Job Description

- Greeting visitors and providing information in order to inform users of available park facilities and park rules, regulations, and policies.
- Processing reservations, collecting and recording fees and registrations electronically for use of park facilities, and preparing appropriate reports in order to maintain reservation system, document information, determine refund amounts, and receive and safeguard park revenues.
- Operating two-way radio in order to maintain contact with other park personnel and relay routine and emergency information.
- Registering vehicles and persons coming into or through park gates in order to document park users.
- Creating spreadsheets, performs data management, and notes and reports electronic user program anomalies.
- Performing small repairs on buildings, sheds, signs, and other structures; and splits and stack firewood when necessary in order to maintain gatehouse facility.
- Some of the most remote, rugged country in the Northeastern US, including Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak, 46 other mountain summits, more than 50 pristine lakes and ponds, and over 200 miles of hiking trails.
- Health Insurance Coverage – The State of Maine pays 85%-100% of employee-only premiums ($10.150.80-$11,345.04 annual value), depending on salary.

- Retirement Plan – The State of Maine contributes at least 13.16% of pay to the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS), on behalf of the employee.

- Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of the principles and practices of quality customer service to perform complex work and modern office methods and procedures; and 2) ability to use independent judgment in handling exceptions to established work assignments, priorities, and selecting the most appropriate course of action within established operating procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some public contact work experience.
- Knowledge of basic clerical procedures such as collecting fees, keeping records, making reservations, and answering questions.
- Knowledge of Katahdin region recreation opportunities that will enrich visitor experience.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
