      St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Beach Services Technician for our Parks and Recreation Department whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

      The newly selected Beach Services Technician will be responsible for the collection of trash and recycling from St Johns County Beaches. This position will perform technical duties in Beach Operations and supplement the needs and requirements of the Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP).

      The ideal Beach Services Technician candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. A hard work ethic and ability to work in a wide array of extreme weather is must for this position. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:

      • Performs routine patrols to collect data to supplement the Habitat Conservation Plan to report and enforce the Beach Code and other related ordinances.
      • Functions as team leader for seasonal HCP technicians overseeing rut removal procedures, nightly gate closures, and data collection (May 1st- October 31st).
      • Ensures that beach maintenance equipment is properly maintained and operational.
      • Assists with the construction, maintenance and repair of beach walkovers and other beach infrastructure.
      • Provides assistance with marine wildlife strandings and other emergencies.
      • Coordinates activities with external agencies and other county departments.
      • Assists with outdoor educational programs.
      • Maintains and improves conservation zone boundaries and public beach access points.
      • May be required to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays.
      • Exercises sound judgement when supervisor is unavailable.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.

      Candidates for the Beach Services Technician are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:

      • High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
      • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
      • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
      • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
      • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
      • Must be able to operate a computer.
