      Position Summary

      The Behavioral Health Clinician is responsible for providing comprehensive support to clients residing in Permanent Supportive Housing, utilizing Catholic Charities of Northwest California (CCNWC) shelters, or accessing the CCNWC Drop-In Center, with the goal of increasing their mental wellbeing and ability to live independent, healthy lives in the community. Applying a trauma-informed lens, this position supports clients through psychiatric intervention and rehabilitation by providing services such as: assistance in accessing mental health care, teaching symptom management strategies, relapse prevention, harm reduction, independent living skills development, health and wellness education, coaching, crisis intervention, and facilitating referrals to behavioral health resources and opportunities for community integration. The Behavioral Health Clinician also lends support to staff by providing training and consultations as part of the team.

      Essential Functions

      1. Respons i ble for maintaining Agency documentations standards as outlined by supervisor within the required timeframe.

      2. Documentation, recording and entering data necessary for Agency performance measures. Maintenance of overall responsibility for client clinical records ensuring that they are accurate, neat and timely. Completion of documentation in Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and DataLink as needed.

      3. Work as part of team, providing prompt communication, consultation to all team members and community providers via phone, email and direct contact.

      4. Conduct clinical assessments with adult consumers to obtain information to complete a comprehensive biological/psychological social assessment.

      5. Maintain a working knowledge of how to present within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) that necessitates collaboration with team members from internal and external entities.

      6. Provide comfortable therapy to homeless clients in the field, including adults with co-occurring substance abuse issues, and mental/physical/developmental disabilities.

      7. Establish participant treatment plans that correlate with the clinical assessment

      8. Assist participants to resolve or cope with mental, emotional, medical, and/or substance-related problems.

      9. Assist in determining the case management and rehabilitation services needed to connect with other mental health services.

      10. Provide services to homeless individuals, including individual counseling, group counseling, and co-occurring counseling.

      11. Build rapport with individuals and staff of various community organizations that serve homeless individuals, families, low-income households, and other CCNWC target populations.

      12. Inform, educate, and refer homeless individuals and families about CCNWC programs and services available to them.

      13. Maintain appropriate boundaries and adhere to CCNWC’s Values.

      14. Develop and implement care plans that are consistent with program structure and philosophy.

      15. Teach, coach and support participants in learning trauma informed skills to address behavioral health concerns. Utilize psycho-social rehabilitation practices to provide general counseling and guidance with clients in a manner that facilitates individual growth.

      16. Provide system navigation for participants experiencing acute mental health challenges. Assist in accessing various medical, detention and psychiatric care facilities as needed and directed. Encourage client efforts at utilizing community supports and peer-based supports, such as the Wellness Center, AA, and NA.

      17. Provide crisis intervention and crisis management services as needed.

      18. Facilitate and lead group meetings and activities as needed and directed.

      19. Participate and contribute to program planning and Agency committees as directed.

      20. Participate in outreach and community building activities as required

      21. Ensure services are delivered with cultural sensitivity and in the preferred language of client

      22. Provide training and consultation to program staff including provision of clinical supervision to staff or interns as needed.

      23. Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Catholic Charities in the performance of all essential job functions and responsibilities.

      Other Responsibilities

      1. May assist in food preparation for client meals.

      2. Work with Diocese of Santa Rosa and local parishes as appropriate and requested.

      3. Perform other related duties as assigned.

      Education, Experience, and Skills Required

      1. Master's degree in social work or a related field, licensed with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, five or more years of experience in a behavioral health organization, required; two plus years of supervisory experience preferred.

      2. Strong understanding of individual and group dynamics.

      3. Excellent organizational and crisis management skills, strong boundaries and knowledge of trauma responses, knowledge of ethics, documentation, treatment planning, and assessment.

      4. Two or more years of experience with electronic health records (EHR) preferred.

      5. One or more years of experience in first responder-related field, preferred.

      6. Ability to work in an independent, organized, calm and reassuring manner with good judgment.

      7. Reliable, dependable and flexible, accept supervision, suggestions and feedback.

      8. Must have interest in working with people that have experienced chronic homelessness with a behavioral health disability.

      9. Ability to work within the rules, regulations, and policies that govern Agency compliance.

      10. Organized, responsible, professional, and able to work on many projects simultaneously.

      11. Ability to show empathy and to relate to clients, other professionals, and the general community; lived experience is an advantage.

      12. Must be a positive team player.

      13. Computer literacy required including experience with Microsoft 365 Suite.

      14. Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Catholic Charities and its clients.

      15. Valid driver license and at least state required minimum of automobile insurance, clear DMV driving record and ability to provide own transportation. Must be willing and able to travel between agency sites.

      16. Must pass DOJ background clearance (fingerprinting) in accordance with the Diocese of Santa Rosa’s policies prior to start of employment.

      17. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
