      Position Highlights

      The University of Arizona, Counseling & Psych Services is seeking half-time or full-time, Arizona independently licensed mental health clinician (LCSW, LPC, LMFT) to provide mental health triage, brief individual and group counseling, support groups, workshops, referral, consultation, outreach, and crisis services to UA undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, with a particular focus on crisis response services and QT+BIPOC students. Positions require some evening hours and occasional weekend duties.

      The selected candidate will be placed in one of the following centers:
      1. Up to 1.5 FTE generalist counselor at CAPS.
      2. Minimum 0.5 FTE site-based counselor within the Disability Cultural Center (DCC).
      3. Minimum 0.5 FTE site-based counselor within the Veterans Education & Transition Services (VETS) Center
      4. Minimum 0.5 FTE site-based counselor within the Women & Gender Resource Center (WGRC).

      There are FTE’s available between .50 – 1.0, which will be decided together by applicant and CAPS staff.

      These positions, along with other Cultural and Resource Center (CRC) site-based positions, were created and funded by the University of Arizona Executive Office of the President, in part, as response to a list of demands created by the Coalition of Black Students and Allies (COBA) www.health.arizona.edu/equity. The site-based counselors work closely with the entire CAPS and CRC staffs, as well as interfacing with the Campus Health Service (CHS) medical team, the Dean of Students Office, Housing and Residential Life, faculty, families, other campus departments and community entities.

      The Disability Cultural Center (DCC) serves as a unique space for all students, faculty, staff and community members to explore and celebrate disability identity, culture and community. We
      offer a variety of events and programming that promote an authentic and intersectional perspective on disability.

      Veterans Education & Transition Services (VETS) Center
      Veterans Education and Transitions Services (VETS) was created to provide a comprehensive set of services to ensure military-connected students transition successfully to the university environment, are retained, graduate, and obtain meaningful employment.

      Women & Gender Resource Center (WGRC)
      The Women and Gender Resource Center (WGRC) core value is intersectional feminism, centering and serving the most marginalized students, particularly women, non-binary, queer, low-income, and students of color. We run a drop-in center where students of varying gender identities and sexual orientations of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds come to access resources, get support, explore gender, better understand how patriarchy impacts their lives, and learn about systemic oppression.

      Duties & Responsibilities

      Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Provide counseling and consultation services as a site-based or generalist counselor with particular attention to QT+BIPOC and other underrepresented students.
      • Assess and summarize ongoing undergraduate, graduate, and professional student needs.
      • Develop, coordinate, and conduct outreach programming, campus trainings and workshops to students, faculty, and staff, particularly focused on the needs of QT+BIPOC and other underrepresented students.
      • Provide psychological evaluation, risk assessment, crisis management, and brief treatment to UA students (individuals, couples, groups).
      • Maintain clinical records in compliance with ethics, law, and best practices.
      • Work cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary campus-based health and mental health team that provides direct clinical services to enrolled UA students.
      • Provide consultation to CRC staff, families, UA faculty, staff, administrators, and CHS medical providers.
      • Provide multicultural outreach to diverse campus groups and strengthen connections with diversity partners on campus including Dean of Students, Housing & Residential Life, and CHS.
      • Utilize relevant information technology.
      • Attend and participate in regular CAPS staff meetings, case conferences, and in-service/professional development training.
      • Attend CAPS/CRC staff meetings as needed.
      • Participate in relevant CHS/CAPS and University committees, as assigned.
      • Provide all services in a manner which is professional, culturally sensitive, and respectful of differences
      • Additional duties as assigned.

      Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

      • Excellent grasp of psychopathology and diagnostic systems.
      • Knowledge about the specific developmental, mental health, and academic concerns of students.
      • Evidence of strong self-awareness of how one’s own identities and life experiences impact their counseling strategies and interactions with students.
      • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
      Minimum Qualifications
      • Master’s degree in an applied mental health field (e.g., Social Work or Counseling) from an accredited institution.
      • 5 years work experience in the behavioral health field and/or providing services to marginalized and/or underserved populations.
      • Current independent licensure in the State of Arizona as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
      • If independently licensed in another state, then the ability to obtain independent licensure in the State of Arizona as one of the above within 6 months of hire.
      • Experience working with the specific developmental, mental health, and academic concerns of students.
      • Experience working with clients of other ethnically/racially diverse backgrounds, individuals representing varying gender identities and sexual orientations, international students, students with multiple intersecting identities, and working cross-culturally.
      • Experience with racial trauma, racial battle fatigue, and anti-racism.
      • Demonstrated experience working effectively with a diverse population of clients presenting with a broad range of clinical needs.
      • Positions require some evening hours and occasional weekend duties.
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Utilizes a holistic approach to care including experience with incorporating relevant spiritual traditions, healing practices, and cultural traditions.
      • Experience assisting students navigate various university resources.
      • Experience in one or more of the following intersectional areas: working with LGBTQIA+, international students, low income, first generation, undocumented, DACA students, or students with mixed status family.
      • Experience with the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
      • Prior clinical experience in a multidisciplinary clinic setting.
      • Demonstrated experience partnering effectively and collegially on an interdisciplinary team in a university counseling center or other mental health agency.
      • Experience utilizing a brief therapy model of care.
      • Experience conducting therapy services in a language other than English.
      • Experience (more than one year) working in university mental health, including crisis assessment and management, mental health triage, brief psychotherapy and referrals.
      • Experience utilizing an electronic health record.
      • Experience taking an enthusiastic and innovative approach to college mental health.
