- Assist the Therapist with equine psychotherapeutic services for Pascua Yaqui Sewa Uusim youth clients.
- Assist with conducting the equine assisted growth and learning activities, including but not limited to the following; non-verbal communication skills using body language and emotions to assist youth in problem solving, improve self-esteem, emotional growth, and relationship building.
- Provide Horse Care Program orientation training to Pascua Yaqui youth, parents, and CSP/Sewa Uusim Staff.
- Develop horse camp activities and trains youth and families in how to properly saddle and safely ride the horses.
- Supervise youth leadership youth in assisting with horse camps and/or therapeutic group activities.
- Write progress notes in Claimtrak System to document, bill for services, and activities.
- Collect and report on client data as required by the Program Manager.
- Attend training as required.
- Work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends to accommodate the needs of youth and family, this can include community events and training.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
- Applicable theories and principles related to youth, adults, and family behavioral health treatment, using a wraparound service model;
- Equine therapy techniques, data tracking, collections, analysis of equine services;
- Best practices in the assessment and treatment of behavioral health problems;
- Law and ethics as related to behavioral health practice;
- Working knowledge of one of the following equine therapy disciplines; Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT), Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL), and Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP);
- Knowledge of horses and experience with an equine program or organization;
- Knowledge of safe camping and outdoor skills required in the Arizona desert;
- Organization, time management and multi-tasking;
- Report writing methods;
- English language, grammar, and punctuation;
- HIPAA and confidentiality requirements in a Behavioral Health setting;
- Behavioral Health Life Skills training models;
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
- Assist and conduct equine therapy session in non-traditional work hours, requiring evening, week-end, and some holidays;
- Effective listening;
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication;
- Motivating others by providing positive encouragement;
- Manage workload, multiple priorities, and administrative responsibilities with minimal supervision;
- Skill in the implementation and facilitation of an Equine Therapy Program for the Pascua Yaqui youth and their families, including setting up horse corrals, saddling horses, and transporting horses on and off the property;
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.
- CPR and First Aide Certifications within three (3) months of hire;
- Must meet the State of Arizona guidelines for a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) within six (6) months of employment;
- This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;
- Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
The Behavioral Health Technician III - Equine Specialist assists the Child/ Family Therapist with the Equine Therapy Treatment Program. The incumbent provides expertise with horse care and training. The employee will attend group therapy sessions, equine program exhibitions, and conduct training sessions in the absence of the Therapist. This position will assist with the safety of the youth and family members participating in the equine therapy program.ANDAbout the company
