      JOB SUMMARY

      Perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties involved in the delivery of employee benefits to Health System personnel. The position requires the application of HR policies in the areas of benefits and leave of absence and is responsible for providing customer service responses to inquiries and escalated issues from the Human Resource Solution Center (HRSC) team.

      JOB FUNCTIONS

      • Act as a customer service consultant handling more complex issues requiring specialized benefits and leave of absence knowledge, escalating cases to senior benefits staff when appropriate.
      • Assist employees in the completion of all necessary forms to enroll in or make changes to JHHS benefits and leave of absence programs.
      • Perform administration activities to support 'core' transaction processing including, but not limited to health and welfare benefits enrollment, qualified status changes, and educational benefits.
      • Identify communication and operational issues arising during day-to-day administration activities/contact with customers and propose solutions to the Human Resource Support Center (HRSC) as appropriate.
      • Assist with group presentations explaining details of specified benefit programs for new hire orientation along with other educational initiatives.
      • Provide technical support and guidance to HRSC staff, sharing technical and legislative knowledge to ensure staff are up to date.
      • Seek to continuously develop and improve levels of knowledge and expertise, coordinating with the Benefits Director for training as required.
      • Make recommendations for process improvements to continuously improve efficiency and customer service.
      • Provide support to the Benefits Director for projects, including open enrollment, annual benefit statement production, performing research, and other tasks as needed.

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (Required)
      • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience or one year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education
      • Up to two years of relevant experience in human resources and/or benefits administration (Required)
      • Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at JHHS
      • Outstanding customer service skills and a high degree of professionalism
      • Ability to synthesize information, provide advice, and address needs independently
      • Knowledge of employee benefits policies and procedures, regulatory legislation such as the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), American Disabilities Act, Internal Revenue Regulations, and ERISA, understanding of benefit plans and provisions
      • Ability to conduct activities and make decisions according to ethical standards
      • Ability to analyze and present information and maintain accurate and detailed records
      • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and effectively prioritize assignments
      • Work requires excellent interpersonal skills necessary to develop and explain benefits information to all levels of Hospital employees; must be able to communicate with external representatives (legal, third-party administrators, insurance companies) regarding all types of benefits issues; must have good oral and written communication skills
      • Work requires a high level of analytical ability necessary to compile and interpret a variety of benefits data including claims information, benefits cost information and the like
      • Demonstrate ability with Human Resources Management Information Systems and computer applications to generate reports and resolve complex mathematical/financial/statistical problems
      • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and with discretion
      • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, complete tasks without immediate supervision, and work with senior leaders to accomplish goals with the ability to lead and train
      • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
